Thursdayâs final High Desert League football game wonât make the Bishop Broncosâ 2013 highlight reel.
For a team accustomed to not just winning but blowing the competition out of the water, this has been a rough year. You can talk about life lessons until youâre blue in the face and it doesnât make the situation any more palatable, maybe in a few years, but not Thursday night.
The competition in Lone Pine volleyballâs Desert Mountain League was intense this year with the final seeding for CIF playoffs coming down to a coin toss.
Unfortunately, the coin did not flip in the Lady Eaglesâ favor, nor did their final DML league game Wednesday evening.
The Eagles hosted the Mammoth Huskies who needed the win to end the season in a three-way tie for league champion with Desert and Desert Christian. Mammoth got the win, 3-1.
The Big Pine Lady Warriors volleyball six held their own through the first two sets of play against the Immanuel Christian Crusaders Tuesday afternoon on home court. While the Warriors got some momentum going through the final two sets, they fell 1-3.
Big Pineâs final game will be this Saturday at 11 a.m. at home against the tough Trona Tornadoes.
The good news for Big Pine: the team is very young; everyone should be back in 2014 and this year has set a strong foundation for good things to come.
The Lone Pine Golden Eagles Volleyball beat the Vasquez Mustangs for the second time this season and did it the hard way on the road.
The Mustangs were ranked ninth in their CIF division, but fell 3-0 to the Eagles in Lone Pine earlier this month, setting up a real battle in Acton Thursday afternoon. Time for a little Vasquez payback.
âWe knew we would have a fight on our hands after our three-game sweep,â said coach Mel Joseph.

The Bishop Lady Broncos volleyball team stayed on track Tuesday on the road with a 3-1 win over the Rosamond Lady Roadrunners.
Bishop dropped the first game 13-25, but came back with a vengeance, winning games two and three by a nose at 25-23 and 26-24, then romping through the winning game four at 25-17.
The Broncos stay perfect in High Desert League at 4-0, 17-5 overall.
Next up is a home game Tuesday, Oct. 29 with a re-match against the Cal City Ravens. The junior varsity game starts at 4 p.m., with varsity following around 5 p.m.
Bishop JV and
Lone Pine fill in
some football blanks
The Bishop Junior Varsity football squad werenât scheduled to take the field this Friday; Frazier has no JV team. The Lone Pine Golden Eagles won by a forfeit to Lee Vining last weekend and were scheduled for a bye this week. So, the two teams will meet at 4 p.m. this Friday at John Schwab field as part of Bishopâs Homecoming extravaganza.
The Conway Ranch Fish-Out Derby
The Bishop Broncos enjoyed a much-needed football victory against their opponent, the Ravens, beneath the windless evening sky in Cal City.
The first half kick off put the Broncos deep in their own territory at the 9-yard line. The team advanced the ball a short distance up field before the Ravens took over on Bishopâs 28 off an errant snap on the punt.
