As the dust settles on regular league play, the Bishop Lady Broncos JV softball team stands alone at the top of the High Desert League standings with a 9-1-0 record, 16-6-1 overall.
The single league loss was to Kern Valley, by 1 run.
The final win over Desert, 8-3 on May 10, marked the end of the JV teamâs season.
âDesert played great defense,â said coach Patty Cummings, âleaving us scoreless at the bottom of the first, so the girls knew they needed to be aggressive at the plate, and thatâs what they did.â

Last fall, the Hi-Lo League football champion Lone Pine Eagles were punted out of the playoffs by a huge, brutal Excelsior Education Center team.
It took a few months, but the Golden Eagles struck back with a 4-2 win over the Excelsior Eagles in the Wild Card bracket of the CIF baseball playoffs.
âWe were solid defensively,â said coach Chris Riesen. âIt was one of our better games. We put everything together and Michael (Cappello) threw well.â
Lone Pine travels to Pasadena today for a match-up with the Poly Pasadena Panthers, the 2011 Division 6 champions.

The Broncos travel to the coast this afternoon to take on the Carpenteria Warriors, Frontier League champions.
The Knights took an early 4-1 lead in the first inning. At the end of four innings, the Knights were ahead 2-8, but the Broncos kicked their game into high gear.
âWe had a big 6-hit inning,â said coach Stacy Van Nest, âthen the Knights couldnât stop our momentum.â
