All six Bishop Lady Bronco tennis players who competed in the CIF individual playoffs Thursday at Bishop City Park earned a slot, ranging from first place to alternate.
Senior Madi Taylor took first place with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kern Valley and a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mammoth. Taylor faced her teammate, Ashley Lee, for first, winning 6-4, 6-1.
Lee went up against Desert, winning in a tie-breaker, then went on to beat the number one seed in the league, 7-5, 6-2, which assured her a spot in the playoffs.
Bishop boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Rosamond for a dual meet against their archrival Roadrunners.
The Lady Broncos beat the Roadrunners 21-39, led once again by sophomore Angie Flores.
Rosamondâs boys team beat Bishop 22-39. Freshman Carson Reid was the top Bronco finisher with a second place. Coach Katie Kress was pleased by Reid and fourth-place finisher Ray Ecklandâs efforts. In Bishop and Rosamondâs earlier meet, the Roadrunners swept the top five spots.
The Bishop High senior Broncos opened up Homecoming Week, Oct. 8, seriously whipping the juniors 26-0.
The strong seniors defense held the juniors to three and out on their first possession of the game. The seniors quickly put points on the board on their first drive. Senior quarterback Katelyne Lent and running back Shiloh Smith teamed up, executing a perfect reverse hand-off. Smith went the distance for a 45-yard touchdown run. Brooke Jordan completed a 2-point conversion putting the seniors ahead, 8-0.
The Lone Pine Lady Golden Eagles volleyball squad upped its game, giving Desert Christian a run for its money in Thursdayâs road game.
The Eagles fell in four, 18-25, 25-22, 15-25, 21-25, against the Knights, who are tied at 8-1 for Desert Mountain League champion with Boron. âWe played much better against Desert Christian than we did last Saturday,â said coach Mel Joseph. âOur intensity allowed us to give a better effort. We had our chances but made too many errors in our offensive execution.â
