The University of California Irvine Anteaters menâ€™s soccer team won the Big West Championship tournament Saturday, beating UC Santa Barbara 3-2 in double overtime.
Chino Santana, former Bishop High School soccer player, was a big part of that win, scoring the Anteatersâ€™ first goal in the first half, his fourth of the season.
Santanaâ€™s assist in the semifinals helped propel the team into the championship match.
UC Irvine is ranked number 8 in Division 1 menâ€™s soccer. The win gives the Anteaters an automatic berth in the NCAA playoffs.
The Lone Pine Golden Eagles will have home-field advantage in round two of the CIF 8-Man football playoffs.
The 32-14 win over the Lancaster Baptist Eagles Friday night secured Lone Pineâ€™s spot in the quarterfinals. The Golden Eagles won the coin flip Monday morning, giving them the advantage over Excelsior Education Center in the Nov. 18 match-up.
