Elizabeth Fay (Libby) Vassar
1937-2010

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 at the First United Methodist Church for lifelong Bishop resident Elizabeth Fay (Libby) Vassar. Those who attend are asked to wear red and bring a smile.
Born June 30, 1937 to Francis Fay and Charles H. (Mannie) Olds in Bishop, Libby died at the Bishop Care Center after a brief illness on Sept. 12, 2010. She was 73.
Libby married Mitchell M. Vassar in 1953. They had three children, Marcy, Mitch and Missy.

Thornton Jay ‘T.J.’ Marker

Private burial services will take place at Santa Barbara Cemetery in Santa Barbara for seven-year Bishop resident Thornton Jay “T.J.” Marker.
Born in Long Beach on Sept. 4, 1922, T.J. died Sept. 6, 2010 at Northern Inyo Hospital from complications of diabetes. He was 88.

Madeline C. Robinson

Private services will be held at a later date for former Bishop resident Madeline C. Robinson.
Born Jan. 31, 1914 in Riverside to Glenn and Alice Calkins, Madeline died Sept. 18, 2010 in Portland, Ore. She was 96.
Madeline was a nurse in the early 1950s at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop. She also served as office nurse for Dr. Robert Denton and Dr. C.L. Scott.

Carroll E. Thomas

A private memorial service will be held in the fall for Big Pine resident Carroll E. Thomas.
Born May, 1, 1910 in Clarinda, Iowa, Carroll died at the Bishop Care Center on Sept. 15, 2010. He was 100.
Carroll was the first of eight children. He was preceded in death by his three brothers and three sisters, and also his wife of many years and mother of his sons, Ruth E. Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. this Saturday at the Baptist Church in Independence for Karl Eugene Cavanagh, who died Sept. 2, 2010 at the age of 86.
Karl is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Suzie McCune; son-in-law, Donnie McCune; grandson, Marty McCune; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley J. White 1923-2010

In keeping with her request, no services will be held for 65-year Lone Pine resident Shirley J. White.
Born Dec. 24, 1923 in Los Angeles, Shirley died Sept. 4, 2010 in Lone Pine. She was 86.
Shirley married Bob White in 1945 and they operated the Lone Pine Airport and Tunnel Air Camp for more than 30 years.
They had two children: daughter Barbara, who is married to Don Cauvel of Bakersfield; and son Robert, who is married to Jeanne White of Lone Pine. Shirley also had four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Beryle (Feige) Carr 1914-2010

At her request, no services were held for longtime Bishop resident Dorothy Beryle (Feige) Carr.
She died peacefully on Aug. 17, 2010 at the Bishop home of her beloved niece, Beryl Ann Rea, at the age of 95.
Dorothy Beryle Carr was born in Bishop on Aug. 20, 1914 to Leora and Joseph Feige, a two-time mayor of Bishop. Upon graduation from Bishop High School, she attended Redlands University and the University of Southern California. She was a music teacher in Southern California for more than 40 years. After living with her sister in Monterey, she returned to Bishop in 2008.

Jeffrey Arnold Peters, Sr.

A celebration of life for Jeffrey Arnold Peters, Sr. will be held at Porky’s Bar and Restaurant in Reno today.
Born Feb. 7, 1962, Jeff died Sept. 1, 2010. He was 48.
Jeff is survived by his fiancée, Suzi; and six children; Jeff, Jr., Jennifer Magen, Chelsi, Erica, Justin and Janelle.
