Gerald Paul Benson
Gerald “Jerry” Benson passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Joan, at his side.
Born to Rodney and Mae Benson in Passaic, N.J., Jerry moved to the San Fernando Valley with his family when he was 14 years old. He graduated from Notre Dame H.S. and married his high school sweetheart. After serving in the Armed Forces for two years, Jerry spent more than 35 years as a Shell Service Station owner. He loved fast cars.
Mary Caroline ‘Pat’ Coles
Pat Coles was born in Fort Logan, Colo. on July 24, 1908, and passed away in Bishop on June 15, 2011, just shy of her 103rd birthday.
As a young girl, Pat’s family moved to Vancouver, Wash. where she grew up and went to school. In 1925 she moved with her family to San Francisco. She worked for AT&T for 11 years, then Standard Oil in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and for Hammer Shipping Merchant Marine during the last of the war years.
Carl Howard Davis
Carl Howard Davis was born in Los Angeles on Jan. 11, 1924 to Carl Norton Davis and Gladys Irene Horney. He passed away June 1, 2011 at Northern Inyo Hospital. He was 87. Carl was raised in Los Angeles County and graduated from Montebello High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. He served in the South Pacific until World War II ended and then reenlisted for a second hitch from 1946 to 1949.
Neel Thornton Bell, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at the Independence Cemetery by Winnedumah Masonic Lodge No. 287 at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 21.
Born July 20, 1945 in Inglewood, Calif. to Neel and Enid Bell of Inglewood, Calif. Neel passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora, Calif. from complications of colon cancer. He also suffered from multiple sclerosis.
Robert H. Goodell
Bob Goodell passed away May 30, 2011 at 68 years of age. Born in San Mateo, Bob grew up in Anaheim. He graduated from Cal State Fullerton and later moved to June Lake where he owned and operated Resort Refuse Waste Disposal from 1980 to 1994.
Upon retirement Bob moved to Bishop to concentrate on perfecting his golf swing. He had a great love of animals – especially his kitties.
Dorothy DeLand, 92, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2011 at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop, Calif. after a brief illness. She had been a resident of Bishop for more than a decade.
Stephen Douglas Jorgensen, Jr.
Stephen Douglas Jorgensen, Jr. passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was a wonderful husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He had a big impact on many lives. He will be missed dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at Millpond July 9, 2011. All friends are welcome to attend. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a dish.
Edgardo F. De Lucas
Ed was born to the late Eugenio B. De Lucas and Guadalupe F. De Lucas on Oct. 17, 1920 in Douglas, Ariz., Ed graduated from Douglas High School in 1938. In 1940 he traveled to Los Angeles to attend Woodbury College. He married Josephine Cruz, of Bishop, in 1948.
Robert Eugene ‘Gene’ Brown
Gene Brown peacefully passed away at the age of 79 with his wife and sons by his side on May, 16, 2011 at Renown Regional Hospital in Reno, Nev.
Gene was born on Sept. 10, 1931, in the town of Westville, Ill. to the late Odbert and Leatha Brown.
After meeting on a blind date, at the Rosemead Moose Lodge, Gene and Sharon Elizabeth courted for 11 long weeks before they married on Sept. 5, 1970 in Montebello, Calif.
Josephine Veenker, wife of deceased Louis F. Veenker, died Sunday May 29, 2011 shortly after her 94th birthday in Lindon, Utah at her son Lawrence Veenker’s residence. Veenker, a long time resident of June Lake and Bishop, was known for her exemplary service at the June Lake Library, the June Lake Womens Club, the Bishop Women’s Improvement Club, Inyo Friends of Library Oral History Project, and the Presbyterian Church in Bishop.
