James Paul Misenhimer

Specialist James Paul Misenhimer entered eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 in Bamberg, Germany.
James was one of three boys born to parents Terry and Julie Misenhimer. He has an older brother, Matthew, and a twin brother, Brian. James was born in San Diego and raised mainly in La Quinta, but also had lived in Bishop and Carlsbad for a time.

Eugene David Shaffer, 90, of Apple Valley, passed away Friday, Dec. 27 2013.
He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio. Eugene, fondly known as Dave, graduated from Bishop High School in 1940. He went to work for Cal Interstate Telephone Company in Bishop after graduating high school. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and fought in World War II as a Navy pilot. He married Thelma Norberg in 1946, and they lived together in Bishop before relocating to Big Bear Lake in 1962.

Mrs. Evelyn Mary Deming, 88, passed away Dec. 24, 2013. She was born in New York on July 30, 1925.
She leaves a beloved son and daughter, Bev and Craig; and her grandson, Aaron. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Steve; and her daughter-in-law, Vonnie; and family.
She is so cherished and missed by us all. We will have a private service.

Neddeen Philis Naylor passed away at her home on Dec. 25, 2013. She was 85 years old.
A crydance will be held at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at the Lone Pine Indian Reservation ball field, and a celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Lone Pine Indian Reservation gymnasium. A potluck luncheon will follow.
Neddeen is survived by her children, Sue Ann, Mary, Nancy, Eloise, Alice (Rick), Valorie, Kelly; daughter-in-law, Eleanor; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Carl King, age 79, passed away Dec. 18, 2013 at Southern Inyo Hospital in Lone Pine.
He was born in Muskegon, Mich. and has resided the last 17 years in Independence.
Carl served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years. He was a member of the American Legion, Masons, Eastern Star and Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Noretta, and his brothers, Jerry, Paul and John.

Longtime Bishop resident Bonny Hollis, age 88, died peacefully in her bed, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side, in the Bishop Care Center on Dec. 26, 2013 after a long battle with dementia and macular degeneration.

Eva E. (Jarvis) Alva, age 87, was a lifetime resident here in Bishop. Eva was born to George A. Jarvis and Clara A. Jarvis who moved to Bishop in 1919 and began the original Jarvis Construction. Eva was their last living child born to them at home on Grove Street. on Jan. 18, 1926. She passed away on Dec. 20, 2013 at the Northern Inyo Hospital.

Neddeen Philis Naylor passed away at her home on Dec. 25, 2013. She was 85 years old.

Ethel (Goldstein) de la Torre was born three days before Christmas in Brookline (Boston), Mass., and was raised there. She spent time as a Girl Scout and was extremely fond of the experience; it was there that she first developed a love for fishing.

Don Larson

Don Larson
1917-2013

Don Larson, a resident of Bishop for 45 years born in Storm Lake, Iowa on July 2, 1917, passed away on Dec. 26, 2013 in the early morning at the Bishop Care Center. He was 96.
Donald loved living in Bishop for 45 years; he loved golf, bridge clubs along with fishing in the local area. He was married for 53 years to Ruth Larson.
He is survived by his son, Brad, and grandchildren, Kailey and Jacob Larson.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Jan. 11 at the United Methodist Church, Bishop.
