Jesse Ray Smith

Jesse Ray Smith, born Sept. 1, 1931, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.
Born in Wewoka, Okla., Jesse served bravely in the Army during the Korean War. In 1964, while working at Helms Bakery, he met Jeanne St. Pierre and on Feb. 13, 1965 they were married.
He lived in Big Pine and owned and operated Mammoth Liquor from 1978 until retiring in 2004.

Blanche Willetta Bonham Comino, 72, of Paso Robles, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2013. She was born to the late William McLane Bonham and Marie Bernice Bonham on March 11, 1941 in Lone Pine.
Blanche attended Sacred Heart High School in Los Angeles and graduated from Lone Pine High School in 1959. Blanche went on to attend Los Angeles Trade Tech and later earned her Pharmacy Tech license. After 15 years as a Pharmacy Tech, she achieved her degree in Business Management and a Master’s in Early Childhood Development from the University of Redlands.

Dolores Ann Warbington, born Oct. 12, 1926 in Gary, Okla. to Eugene Gobel and Agnes Kelly Gobel, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Nov. 24, 2013. She was 87.

Kenneth “Katman” Howell left his body on Thanksgiving morning at home with his family by his side.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on Sept. 28, 1945, his mother brought him to California on the Queen Mary when he was 8 months old. His childhood was spent in the San Gabriel Valley.
He joined the Air Force when he was 18 and afterwards traveled extensively. He drove his Porsche to Alaska, drove a double-decker bus in Glasgow and made several trips driving a van full of travellers from Amsterdam to Katmandu.

Lester Leon Bell, born in Oklahoma on Aug. 2, 1920, to Fred and Nettie Bell, passed away Nov. 28, 2013 peacefully at his home in Bishop. He was 93.
Lester graduated from Wasco High School where his family was in the oil business. Lester served in the U.S. Army. He married Betty McCall in 1942; they had known each other since childhood. They embarked on a lifetime of adventures together. They had three children, Lonnie, Pam and Dan.

James William “Bud” Cashbaugh was an avid reader, with a sharp, analytical mind that held a deep interest in learning more about the people around him. Bud had two passions in life, his ranch and his family. Bud passed away Nov. 29, 2013, at age 92.
Bud’s story began on Aug. 24, 1921, near Buckley Pond on his family’s ranch. As the son of Jim and Gladys Cashbaugh, and grandson of pioneer Augustus Anthony Cashbaugh, who settled in the Owens Valley in 1865, Bud’s love for his home began at a young age.

Nadine was born in O’Neil, Neb. on Jan. 14, 1925. She was called home to be with the Lord on Nov. 24, 2013 at the age of 88.
Nadine and her family eventually moved from Nebraska to California where she attended Le Conte Jr. High School in Hollywood and met her future husband, Larry. They dated off and on while attending Hollywood High School. One of Nadine’s most exciting memories about moving to Hollywood was when her dog got away from her while they were walking and John Wayne caught it for her.

Jean Jarvis was born May 22, 1922 in Los Angeles. She passed away Nov. 23, 2013 at Northern Inyo Hospital. She was 91.
At 16, her family moved from Santa Paula to Lee Vining where she met Bud, the love of her life. In 1940 they married and celebrated 53 years together. She was employed by the County of Inyo Bishop Library for 21 years acting as Librarian for 15. She was the bookkeeper and office manager for Jarvis Contracting until their son Rick took over the business in 1986.

Helen B. Trust, 91, a resident of Bishop for 30 years who was born in Pasadena on June 5, 1922, passed away Nov. 18, 2013 at Northern Inyo Hospital.
Helen was an executive secretary in Fullerton prior to retiring with her husband Dale in Bishop. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend to all who had the pleasure to know her.
She is survived by her husband Dale; son and daughter, Dan and Susie; three grandchildren, Tyler, John and Sandi; and her beloved pugs, Freddie and Ricky.
