John ‘Mike’ Schell
1946-2012
John “Mike” Schell born in Oildale, Dec. 10, 1946,, passed away at Carson-Tahoe Medical Center on March 1, 2012. He was 65.
Mike lived in the Owens Valley for 30 years and worked for many years at the Union Carbide Mine.
He is survived by his daughter, Brandy Park of Bishop; son, Eric J. Schell of Arkansas; stepson, Eugene C. Lopez of Bakersfield; father, J.C. Ramay of Bakersfield; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ellen Wilmoth
1938-2012
Ellen Wilmoth, 73, was born in Detroit, Mich., and passed away Friday, March 2 at Northern Inyo Hospital after a long battle with Lung Cancer.

1924-2012
Born Jan. 7, 1924 in Bishop, to Laura Francis McKeen and Roy Caldron Lyon, Margaret Ann Frazer passed away Jan. 15, 2012 in Shasta Lake. She was 88.

Consuelo ‘Connie’ G. Valdez
1922-2012
Consuelo “Connie” G. Valdez was born in Laws on Feb. 3, 1922. She moved to Keeler a year later. She received her schooling in Keeler and at Lone Pine High School.
She was married in 1941 to Lorenzo “Val” Valdez then moved to Lone Pine and had two sons, Luis and Tom.
She participated in many community clubs and events.
She enjoyed family reunions, friends, fishing Crowley Lake and a few slots.
Walter Svetich
1930-2012
Walter Svetich, 81, of Chalfant passed away Feb. 25, 2012 at home. Born Oct. 11, 1930 in Dillon, Mont. to John and Caroline Svetich, he was the third of five children. He grew up in Dillon where during and after high school, he cowboyed on local ranches. Walt enlisted in the Navy in 1950. He was a seaman on the USS Windham Bay for two years during the Korean War. After the service, he cowboyed from Montana to Mexico on various ranches.

Eileen (Ellis) Leslie
1928-2012
Eileen was born in Silverton, Colo. on June 13, 1929 and passed away peacefully Feb. 16, 2012 at her home in Barstow. She was the oldest of seven girls born to Forest (Frosty) and Dora Ellis. She graduated from Bishop High School in 1948 and married Gene Leslie the same year. They moved to Barstow in 1965 when she went to work for California Interstate Telephone Company. After retiring, they returned to Barstow.
She loved fishing, quilting, scrounging and her family.

Laura F. Covington
1942-2012
Lora F. Covington, born Aug. 2, 1942, passed away Feb. 10, 2012.
Born in Fresno, Lora came to Bishop in 1970. She worked at Erik Schat’s Bakkery as a cashier for 17 years.
She is survived by her children, Russell and Balery Covington of Bishop, Rob A. and Jen Covington of Round Mountain, Nev. and Edward and Teresa Merchant of Bishop; and two grandchildren, Robert M. Covington and Sierra Dawn Merchant, both of Bishop.
Charles Alfred ‘Chuck’ Sedgwick
1937-2012
The East Side lost a good man. Charles Alfred “Chuck” Sedgwick died suddenly on Jan. 5, 2012. Chuck and Judy, his wife of 56 years, have been hiking in the Sierras and living along the Eastern Sierra for the last 40 years.
Virginia Lee Perry
1936-2012
Virginia Lee Perry was born in Santa Monica on April 16, 1936. She was the only child of Charles and Alice Perry. She attended school in Santa Monica. At age 19 while visiting her father who lived in Bishop at the time, she fell in love with the Owens Valley and decided to stay and worked as an operator for the phone company. In 1956 she married Robert Shunkwiler and they had two children, Dorothy and Robert.
