Calvin Eugene ‘Gene’ Shields

Calvin Eugene “Gene” Shields went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 11, 2012. He was 68 years old. He was a resident of Bishop for more than 40 years and passed away in Carson City, Nev. following a short illness. Gene was a long time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bishop and was a faithful member of the congregation. Gene had a successful janitorial business which he ran for 25 years.

Katherine Ellen Caplinger

Katherine Ellen Caplinger, 79, resident of Silver Springs, Nev. for one year, born in Syracuse, N.Y. on Aug. 10, 1932, passed away on March 25, 2012 at her daughter’s residence in Bishop.
A former Bishop resident and former longtime resident of Topaz Ranch Estates, Katherine was a loving wife and mother. She told her children she lived a long, full life.

Milton Chandler Buell, Sr.

Milton Chandler Buell, Sr., resident of Bishop for 13 years, born on June 23, 1923 in East Hartford, Conn., passed away March 22, 2012 at Northern Inyo Hospital. He was 88 years old.
He was preceded in death by wife, Elaine Buell; and sister, Nancy Barnes.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy March of Benton; sons, David Buell of Frazier Park,, Milton Buell, Jr. of Katy, Texas and Robert Buell of Brea; and sister, Janet Helm of S. Windsor, Conn.

Robert Ronald Behrendt, Jr.

Memorial Service for Robert Ronald Behrendt, Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Brune Mortuary, 325 W. Elm St. in Bishop.
Born Sept. 28, 1926 in Charleroi, Penn., Robert died March 18, 2012 at Renown Hospital in Reno.
He was educated  at Sherwood Music Conservatory, Chicago, Ill. where he majored in Composition and Arranging. He did his general studies at DePaul University.

He was born on May 29, 1927 in Pasadena.

Harold E. Graves

Born June 17, 1947, Harold E. Graves went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
Harold transferred from Lone Pine with the company DoxilGas/Ferrell Gas to Prescott, Ariz.
He delivered propane in the Tri-City area and was well known for his willingness to always help and serve others.
His artistic ability to make something out of nothing won him several ribbons in various art shows.

Ellen M. Harbert, 70, a resident of Big Pine for 13 years, born in Los Angeles on Dec. 19, 1941, passed away peacefully at her home in Big Pine on March 8, 2012.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Marie Harbert of Encino; granddaughter, Melissa Harbert; brother, Edward Mayo of Houston, Texas; and niece, Nesta Mayo of New York City, N.Y.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister passed away in the early evening of March 6, 2012 in Reno, Nev. She was born March 12, 1930 in Lone Pine. Margaret was a devoted wife of almost 60 years to Donald Hudson Terry, who passed just seven months ago. There are no words to express how much she is loved and how much she will be missed.

Leland F. Campbell

Members of the Bishop Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 8988, family and friends are mourning the loss of three-war veteran Leland F. Campbell, 87.
Campbell, who was known to many in Bishop as the “Sierra Street Waver,” served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, Korea and Vietnam before starting his own bakery in Nevada City, Nev. Later, he returned to college and worked as an auto mechanic.
