Following a burglary on Monday evening, the Petite Pantry Restaurant is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the burglar or burglars.
The eatery, located on North Sierra Highway north of Bishop, was broken into, according to the owner Jay Jimenez. He said that sometime between closing on Sunday night and opening Monday morning a person, or persons pried open the back door of the establishment.

Cottonwood Plaza is still empty, but there is work being done to fill it. While waiting on environmental reports, the prospective buyer has reportedly been accepting bids to retrofit the plaza with new windows.
Realtor Stan Smith of Pleasant Valley Associates said Tuesday that everyone involved is awaiting the results of soil samples from the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board.
âNo oneâs backing out,â Smith said.

Inyo County has another piece of history to add to its collection at the Eastern California Museum thanks to a donation from the Moore Family Trust.
According to Inyo County Museum Services Director Jon Klusmire, the Moore Family Trust donated a set of 30 ânon-vintage posthumous edition photogravure prints struck from original copper photogravure plates made by Edward S. Curtis.â

The California High School Rodeo Association will be holding its finals at the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop for the next four years with a possible two-year extension on top of that. The rodeo attracts more than 700 parents and participants that stay and spend in Bishop.
The CHSRA contracts for holding the finals has always been competitive, said Jim Tatum, fairgrounds general manager, but he said Bishop made the CHRSA an offer it couldnât refuse. He added that he has only had phone confirmation and details are still being hammered out.

The really big fish that have been caught along Bishop Creek â those lunker Alpers trout â could soon be a thing of the past.
Adopt-A-Creek, the group of volunteers that has raised nearly a half-million dollars in the past dozen years to stock those trophy fish, luring the tourists and their money, has lost its major source of funding.
Founder Ron Scira said this week that heâll make an announcement at the Annual Fishing Opener Press reception, held the Friday before Fishmas, whether the non-profit organization will dissolve or continue.

The report on how much money local consumers spend in out-of-town sales, or leakage, on the City of Bishop is complete and the numbers are in. The report also spotlighted why locals shop out-of-town.
Aaron Farmer of The Retail Coach gave a presentation to the Bishop City Council and many attendees on Monday on numbers and the results of a recent consumer survey.
One of Inyo Countyâs state legislators has been named âLegislator of the Yearâ by a council of peers.
The Regional Council of Rural Counties announced that it has selected Assemblywoman Connie Conway (R-Tulare) as one of two recipients for the annual âPatti Mattingly Awardâ for 2010.Â
According to a press release, âThe Patti Mattingly Award is given to a policymaker that has demonstrated leadership on rural issues and an understanding of the unique challenges that rural communities face.â

A month into 2011, and manufacturers have already pulled what may seem like a startling number of products from the market due to mandatory or voluntary recalls.
But these recalls, affecting products nationwide from clothing to antacid, are more common than consumers might think, according to local health officials.
These officials, whose job it is to look for recalls that may affect those on the Eastside, also say that while consumers may be ill-informed when it comes to nationwide recalls, there are both new and tried-and-true ways the public can stay up-to-date with the latest news.

Inyo County is once again teaming up with National Geographic, the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and the Sierra Business Council to educate potential visitors on the regionâs many attractions.
To assist in the effort, residents are invited to visit www.sierranevadageotourism.org and nominate their favorite restaurants, trails, attractions and geographic features for inclusion on a map of California.
A French music video starring Melissa NâKonde, an Athropologie Catalog Internet video, a Chevy commercial north of Bishop and a cast and crew from episodic television are some of the most recent film projects working locally.
To help accommodate the continued increase in film traffic, the Inyo Film Commission has begun to search for additional local resources for these productions on location.
