Raising the roof in Big Pine

Work is underway on the new Inyo County Animal Shelter in Big Pine, and county staff has completed grading work on the site and turned the project over to Rudolph Construction of Bishop.
Inyo County Public Works Director Clint Quilter said last week that staff with the Inyo County Road Department graded the site of the new building, to be constructed adjacent to the current shelter. County crews removed large boulders from the site and leveled the area before crews from Rudolph Construction took over.

Residents who attended Wednesday evening’s forum for five candidates vying for three seats on the Bishop Unified School District Board of Trustees may have a harder time deciding how to cast their votes Nov. 4 than they would have before the forum.
While the five candidates’ backgrounds vary, the consensus of a small sampling of those in attendance was that all five made their case effectively and convincingly.

School board candidates discuss the issues in Round Valley

Tuesday evening’s candidates’ forum at the Round Valley Elementary School, sponsored by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Bishop and The Inyo Register, featured three candidates vying to fill two seats on the Board of Trustees which are opening in November.
Round Valley has a three-person Board of Trustees currently composed of Joe Griego, Howard Arcularius, and Stacy Sparrow. Trustees Griego and Arcularius opted not to run for re-election.
Stepping up to fill the vacancies are Jeff Perry, Shawn Ray and Eduardo Sandoval.

Supes not crazy about cuckoo listing

The Inyo County Board of Supervisors raised concerns Tuesday about the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s announcement that it has listed the yellow-billed cuckoo as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.
