Bishop refuses sale for court project

The state’s plans to build a new Inyo County courthouse in Bishop came to a momentary standstill last week when the city declined to accept the court’s offer to buy the state Administrative Office of the Courts’ first-choice building site.

The classroom acts as newsroom, makeshift film set and tech center – an oasis of opportunity for those students journalistically, technologically and artistically inclined.
An array of PCs and Macs perch on the table tops in an orderly matrix, making room 208 one of the only hybrid classrooms in the state. This variety provides the platform for real-life experience with both programs.

Alpers trophy trout latest victim of low run-off year

The drought’s impact on Eastern Sierra tourism took a serious turn for the worse this week when the source for Alpers Trophy Trout literally dried up.
Inland Aquaculture Group, the area source for the Alpers trout operating out of Conway Ranch, was informed by Southern California Edison last October that there would not be enough water to support the fishery through this winter. The Lundy Lake watershed is at 24 percent of normal.

Manzanar Committee makes plans for annual gathering

Planning is underway for the 45th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage and related events.
Each year, hundreds of students, teachers, community members, clergy and former incarcerees attend the Pilgrimage to reflect on life in the World War II Interment camp and educate the public on the history of the Japanese Americans incarcerated there.
The 45th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage, sponsored by the Manzanar Committee, is scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 26 at the Manzanar National Historic Site, located on U.S. 395 between Lone Pine and Independence.

Community gives Lone Pine FFA a big boost

The Lone Pine FFA Blue and Gold Grapes & Grains Western Mixer fundraiser, held at the Lone Pine Film History Museum on Friday, March 7, was a tremendous success, raising close to $20,000 in support of the agriculture students in the Future Farmers of America Program at Lone Pine High School.
The film museum’s director, Bob Sigman, and the museum’s Board of Directors have been very supportive of the FFA over the past few years by allowing them to use the museum as the venue for this very popular annual event.
