Whiskey owner sets his sights on re-opening

A perfect storm of circumstances led to the unexpected closure of the Whiskey Creek restaurants in Mammoth and Bishop this past Friday, but the reaction from shocked community members just may have saved the Bishop eatery.
Whiskey Creek owner Greg Alexander said Monday that an outpouring of support from local residents on Friday and over the weekend reinforced a passion to overcome the challenges he’s facing and re-open the Bishop mainstay.

‘Extreme’ fire season expected in 2014

Amidst one of the worst droughts in California’s recorded history, state officials have issued a burn suspension in Inyo and Mono counties due to “extreme” potential for wildfires.
Firefighters across the state are preparing for what may turn out to be one of the earliest and hardest fire seasons in recent memory by fully manning fire stations and educating the public on the hazards wildfires could pose.

Local fire districts disagree on TOT increase

A recent effort to put a Transient Occupancy Tax increase ballot measure before voters in June was abandoned due to non-support by several county supervisory boards. The increase was intended to benefit fire protection district services countywide.
Inyo County fire chiefs for the Southern Inyo, Lone Pine, Independence, Olancha, Big Pine and Bishop fire districts met on Jan. 23 to decide whether to place one-percent county TOT increase measure on the June 2014 primary supervisory election ballot, Bishop Fire Chief Ray Seguine said.

BUHS students take top honors at free flight competition

Local Bishop High School students took top honors at a free flight competition for model airplanes held in Eloy, Ariz. two weekends ago.
A newcomer to the event, sophomore Garrett Tremayne placed first; junior Logan Tetrick, third. The wins placed both boys in the top three in the United States. Both qualified for the World Championships Model Airplane held in Solanta, Romania this July where they will compete with entries from 16 countries. The international event is held every two years.
