Bishop Unified School District Superintendent Barry Simpson had planned on doing a PowerPoint presentation of pros and cons to help the Board of Trustees decide where Broncos athletes will go for CIF playoff games this coming school year.
âI decided against it,â Simpson said at Thursdayâs board meeting. âThere werenât a whole lot of pros.â
May 15th
The Bishop Police Department is investigating the cause of a collision that occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning at the intersection of Home and West Line streets.
For reasons still yet unknown, the driver of a commercial delivery truck veered from the westbound lanes of West Line into the traffic signal pole at the south end of the intersection. He was taken by ambulance to Northern Inyo Hospital.

4:30 P.M. TUESDAY â The Mono County Sheriff's Department announced that, per Caltrans at 3:45 p.m., U.S. 395 at the bridge of State Route 182 in Bridgeport is now open.
9:30 A.M. TUESDAY â An as-yet unidentified truck driver was killed early this morning when he drove his rig off a bridge and into the East Walker River.
According to both the California Highway Patrol and Mono County Sheriffâs Department, the tractor-trailer appears to have failed to negotiate the curve at the south end of Bridgeport, driving through the bridge railing, striking an embankment and erupting into flames.

One of Southern Inyoâs most enduring summer events is returning next month with a familiar face in tow.
Rex Allen Jr., son of seminal singing cowboy Rex Allen and longtime friend of the Lone Pine Film History Museum, will perform in the heart of the Alabama Hills on Saturday, June 1 as part of the museumâs largest, annual fundraiser.
Concert in the Rocks takes place in Lone Ranger Canyon just as the sun begins to set behind the Sierra â making for what Museum Director Bob Sigman calls âan enchanting evening.â

Caltrans re-opened State Route 120 West â more widely known as Tioga Pass Road â to the east Yosemite National Park entrance gate on Thursday afternoon. The road was closed over the weekend due to recent storms.
Tioga is still closed beyond the park entrance but Yosemite officials indicated to Caltrans the road could be opened all the way through the park as early as this Saturday, May 11, depending on the weather.

One local family has bought a brand new house as a result of an ongoing program that is in the process of weaving newly-constructed model homes into a well-established community.
Mark and Andri Napoles received the key to their new, Pa Ha Lane model home on Wednesday, May 1 and on May 3, Darren Bernard and his son took possession of a home of their own. As they spread out in their new homes, other families apply to get on the Bishop Paiute Tribe Community Development Department project waiting list so they can do the same in the future.
New leadership has taken the reins at Eastern Sierra Land Trust.
The ESLT Board of Directors announced this week the successful completion of its Executive Director search with the appointment of Kay Ogden.
Ogden left her position as associate director of the Sierra Nevada Alliance in South Lake Tahoe to begin work as ESLT Executive Director on May 1. âShe brings great passion for the Eastern Sierra landscape and experience in project management, strategic planning, building connections, and leading effective programs,â a press release from ESLT states.

Bishop Union High School juniors and seniors are going to get the red carpet treatment next weekend as they arrive to prom dressed to the nines.
Parents, teachers and school administrators are invited to take a half hour before prom this Saturday to serve as the âpaparazziâ and provide the memories of camera flashes to go with the glitz and glamor of the night.
Those who arrive will have an opportunity to take red carpet pictures of students and even ask a couple âHollywood Premierâ style questions like âWhat are you going to do now?â before the students hit the dance floor.

The City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Powerâs high-profile lawsuit against the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District and other environmental agencies was dismissed this week by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
The Cityâs federal court lawsuit, filed in Fresno last year, attempted to prevent Great Basin from issuing more dust control measures on Owens Lake.

This weekend the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop will be teaming with family friendly activities for both residents and visitors courtesy Laws Railroad Museum, the Owens Valley Contractors and Vendors Association, the local RC club and more.
Kicking off the weekendâs events will be the Owens Valley Contractors and Vendors Association 18th Annual Home, Garden and Recreation Show, the Taste of the Sierra and the Lone Pine Gem and Mineral Societyâs 10th annual Gem and Mineral Show Friday evening.
