ESLT names its new director

New leadership has taken the reins at Eastern Sierra Land Trust.
The ESLT Board of Directors announced this week the successful completion of its Executive Director search with the appointment of Kay Ogden.
Ogden left her position as associate director of the Sierra Nevada Alliance in South Lake Tahoe to begin work as ESLT Executive Director on May 1. “She brings great passion for the Eastern Sierra landscape and experience in project management, strategic planning, building connections, and leading effective programs,” a press release from ESLT states.

Parents needed to provide prom red carpet treatment

Bishop Union High School juniors and seniors are going to get the red carpet treatment next weekend as they arrive to prom dressed to the nines.
Parents, teachers and school administrators are invited to take a half hour before prom this Saturday to serve as the “paparazzi” and provide the memories of camera flashes to go with the glitz and glamor of the night.
Those who arrive will have an opportunity to take red carpet pictures of students and even ask a couple “Hollywood Premier” style questions like “What are you going to do now?” before the students hit the dance floor.

Court rules on LADWP lawsuit

The City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s high-profile lawsuit against the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District and other environmental agencies was dismissed this week by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
The City’s federal court lawsuit, filed in Fresno last year, attempted to prevent Great Basin from issuing more dust control measures on Owens Lake.

Fairgrounds abuzz this weekend

This weekend the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop will be teaming with family friendly activities for both residents and visitors courtesy Laws Railroad Museum, the Owens Valley Contractors and Vendors Association, the local RC club and more.
Kicking off the weekend’s events will be the Owens Valley Contractors and Vendors Association 18th Annual Home, Garden and Recreation Show, the Taste of the Sierra and the Lone Pine Gem and Mineral Society’s 10th annual Gem and Mineral Show Friday evening.
