Let the holiday shopping begin at home

The nationwide holiday shopping blitz known as Black Friday kicks off tomorrow – and at some national retailers, tonight – with deals at big box stores across the U.S. But in the Eastern Sierra, community leaders are asking residents to think local first.
In Inyo County, businesses ranging from the Lone Pine Film History Museum to Dwayne’s Friendly Pharmacy are offering holiday shopping opportunities on Friday, followed by the locally celebrated Small Business Saturday counterpart to Black Friday.

Office of Ed gets $680K in ‘extra’ state funding

While individual Inyo County school districts were “held harmless” with the state’s new Local Control Funding Formula – that is, no one lost income – no district came out in the winners’ column with a windfall of new income. However, county students will be on the receiving end, if indirectly, of additional funding to the Inyo County Office of the Superintendent of Schools to the tune of $680,825 from the LCFF.
