CalFire has completed its final report on the Center Fire in Big Pine and is awaiting a decision by the District Attorney’s Office before it can be released to the public.
According to CalFire Public Information Officer Bill Peters, “we are not going to release the report until the District Attorney decides what he wants to do with it.â€
The final report on the fire will contain the cost of damages and cause of the blaze, as well as details on fire units that responded to the blaze.

For the second time in less than a year, the City of Bishop has a new administrator.
The City Council voted unanimously Monday to have Community Services Director Keith Caldwell step into the shoes of recently resigned Jim Southworth – albeit on an interim basis.
However, according to a press release sent out Tuesday morning, Caldwell’s temporary appointment – not to exceed six months – may be used as a trial run to gauge how well he’d handle the job on a permanent basis.

Amid reduced funding and rising fuel and insurance costs, the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority is announcing fare increases and a change to some of its routes. The fares go up Thursday, Sept. 1 and the route changes won’t go into effect until Tuesday, Sept. 6 following the Labor Day holiday.
The popular Nite Rider service in Bishop was spared the axe because the public spoke out to save it.
