Local law enforcement is trying to contact every household in the county to be sure it has the means to notify all residents of disasters or emergencies in their communities.
The Inyo County Sheriffâs Department tested its CodeRED Emergency Notification System Nov. 4, and is now asking any resident who did not receive an automated call to contact the Sheriffâs Department and have their phone number added to the system.

With the advent of the holiday season comes the approach of the internationally acclaimed Independence Fruitcake Festival.
In addition to hosting and showcasing dozens of homemade fruitcakes and eggnog selections, organizers have added a new spin to this yearâs event, scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 in the American Legion Hall in Independence.
Complementing the 2010 theme, âAmericaâs Got Fruitcakeâ theme, organizers are inviting all Fruitcake Festival attendees to showcase their talents.

A series of small brush fires in the Bishop area over the weekend and past couple weeks have been attributed to arson. According to the Inyo County Sheriffâs Department, three residents linked to the crimes were taken into custody Sunday.
The suspects charged with alleged arson and conspiracy to commit arson are Thomas Stone, 18, Jared Manga, 18, and one 16-year-old juvenile, all three from Bishop. Bail for Stone and Manga has been set at $250,000.
