Triple-double for Lady Bronco

February 4, 2015

Bishop High School senior Tamia Shoshone scored a rare triple-double Tuesday in the Lady Broncos' win over the Kern Valley Lady Broncs.
Shoshone tallied 15 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists on the night.
Three other players scored in double digits.

Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan

Inyo County will be hosting a public meeting from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Lone Pine High School Auditorium, 538 S. Main St. in Lone Pine, to receive input on the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan. The Inyo County Planning Department said it would like to hear how residents feel about the plan before submitting its own comments to the state.

Hills still on tap for Scenic Area designation

“New and improved” legislation that will
designate the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine as a National Scenic area has been introduced to fellow lawmakers by Congressman Paul Cook.
Cook presented the updated legislation at the Thursday, Jan. 22 House of Representatives session.

What's in a name?

The Inyo County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a public hearing at 11:30 a.m. today in the County Administrative Center in Independence to discuss a proposed name change for a road in Lone Pine. County staff is considering changing the name of Indian Cemetery Road in Lone Pine to Magazine Road. All are invited to attend the meeting and weigh in on the decision.

Union forming at NIH

A group of nurses at Northern Inyo Hospital filed a petition today to start a union and have a voice in decisions being made about staffing.

Just after 7:10 a.m., the "Top Hats," also known as the members of the
Groundhog Club's Inner Circle, made their ceremonial march toward the stage, beginning the keynote event of a weekend filled with activity
throughout the town of Punxsutawney.
Members of the Inner Circle greeted the crowd after they worked their way through it, then it was "time to get serious about the weather," as Jeff Lundy, vice president of the Groundhog Club, announced. At that point, the official festivities began with the introductions of the members of the Inner Circle.

Winter race fundraiser
Inyo County Search and Rescue is holding a winter 5K race at Millpond, beginning at 9 a.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee is $10. Proceeds support the Inyo County Search and Rescue Team.

Black Sabbath bass player arrested in Death Valley

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday Inyo County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding a verbal and physical altercation at the Corkscrew Saloon at Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley National Park.
After the Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and interviewed witnesses it was determined that there had been an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation - resulting in an individual being struck, and a broken window.
