Bronco Volleyball Tryouts and Practice
Lady Bronco Volleyball tryouts will be held Monday, Aug. 4 through Wednesday, Aug. 6. The daily schedule is as follows: 8-9 a.m., conditioning; 10 a.m.-noon, skills and 1-3 p.m., game situations.
Players must have their BUHS physical packets completed before Monday, Aug. 4 and must attend all practices. No exceptions.

City oh so close to hiring new boss

The City of Bishop’s attempts to hire a new city administrator have run into delays during the contract negotiation phase.
When the July 14 City Council meeting agenda item came up for consideration – calling for approval of an employment agreement for a new city administrator/city clerk – City Attorney Ryan Jones asked the council to table the item. The council agreed.
Jones gave no reason for the request, and he didn’t have to, City Administrator Keith Caldwell said.

Brewery/pub nears completion

The much anticipated craft brewery Mountain Rambler Brewery will soon open its doors and join South Main Street’s business district.
Joe Lane, owner, spoke to the Bishop Rotary Club on Tuesday, July 15 about the business and shared his plans for the upcoming opening.

Grand Jury weighs in on Inyo’s jails, detention centers

Inyo County’s detention facilities – the Inyo County Jail, Juvenile Hall, the Bishop Police Department and the Owens Valley Conservation Camp – are in good working order, according to the 2013-14 Inyo County Grand Jury.
Though each of the facilities are clean and maintained, the Grand Jury also said there is some room for improvement at each location.
Under Penal Code Section 919, the Grand Jury is charged with inspecting the conditions and management of all public prisons in the county and report its findings.

1966-2014

Scott Stevenson, 47 years old, passed away on July 1, 2014, at his home in Canyon Country. In the last weeks of his life , he was surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in Los Angeles on July 7, 1966. At that time he lived in Wrightwood. Two years later he moved with his family to Independence. He graduated from Owens Valley High School. After attending schools in California and Arizona, he received certificates in auto, diesel, and air conditioning mechanics.

1930-2014

Wymond Walter Eckhardt Jr. passed away June 23 at his home in Solvang, surrounded by his loving family after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 84.
Wymond was born in Los Angeles on April 23, 1930. He was the eldest child of Dr. Wymond and Marie Eckhardt of Glendale, where he grew up. Wymond received his Bachelor of Arts from George Pepperdine College in 1953. He went on to obtain his Master’s and Doctorate of Education from University of Southern California in 1970.

Clean air grants fund 29 projects

The Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District is pleased to report that as of the end of June, its Clean Air Projects Program (CAPP) has resulted in yearly reductions of more than 1.13 million pounds of air pollution District-wide.
Throughout Inyo, Mono and Alpine counties, more than 29 different projects were funded in whole or in part through CAPP. Initially kicked-off in late 2011, CAPP is now closing out the last of its projects.

Pine to Park Path project approaches completion

After a granted request for increased funds, City of Bishop Public Works and contractor work on the Pine to Park Path Project is slated for completion this month, Public Works Director David Grah recently said.
On June 23, the Bishop City Council approved an increase in the total expenditure for the project based on a request prompted by a recently discovered design error.

Golf Day event returns to Bishop

Everyone, from folks who have never played golf to seasoned golf pros, is invited to play games, enjoy dinner and take a chance at winning prizes at the second annual family-friendly Golf Fun Day next Saturday, July 19.
“It is a community-focused event to give families an opportunity to come out and have a good time. Everyone is welcome. There is no age limit and you don’t need to be a Bishop Country Club member,” Bishop Area Chamber Events Coordinator April Leeson said.
