Ralph Voetberg

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 105 N. Mt. Whitney Dr. in Lone Pine for Ralph Voetberg.
Born July 25, 1927 in La Grande, Ore., Ralph died at the Bishop Care Center on Oct. 10, 2010, after suffering a severe stroke on Father’s Day, June 20, 2010.  He was 83.

Don Redmon

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for former Bishop resident Donald Everett Redmon of Mountain Home, Ark.
Born Sept. 25, 1922 in Santa Rosa, Donald died Oct. 13, 2010. He was 88.
Don and his wife Jaylyle relocated from Bishop to Mountain Home in 2003.

Lloyd R. Pettengill

No open services are planned for Bishop Native Lloyd R. Pettengill. 91. 
Born in Bishop in 1919, Lloyd moved to Southern California with his family while still a boy, and came back here to live in 1998 to spend his remaining years. He was 91.
He loved the area and loved to go fishing with his double cousin George Meinke.

As requested by family, no services will be held for 43-year Bishop resident George Lanyon, Jr.
Born the first of three children to George and Rose (Anderson) Lanyon on March 12, 1934 in Michigan, George died at his Bishop home Oct. 17, 2010. He was 76.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Barlow Gym for Tracy Chiatovich. A pot luck dinner will follow.
Born on Jan. 3, 1963 in Chico to Duane and Sharon Chiatovich, Tracy died at Northern Inyo Hospital on Oct. 18, 2010. She was 47.

Bonnie Lee (Holland) Ford

Honoring her request, a private family service will be held at a later date for lifetime Bishop resident Bonnie Lee Ford.
Born July 23, 1927 to Harry and Belle Holland, Bonnie died Oct. 19, 2010 at her home in Bishop. She was 83.
A third-generation Owens Valley pioneer, Bonnie’s grandmother, Anna Stacia Malone, was the first white child born at Fort Independence.

Jessaline B. Fetterman

A memorial will be held in Bishop, in the spring of 2011 for Jessaline B. Fetterman.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn. on March 20, 1915 to Charles Walter Grafft and Neva Belle (Briggs) Grafft, Jessaline B. Fetterman, passed away on October 10, 2010. She was 95.

Velma M. Axford

No services will be held for Velma M. Axford.
Born May 12, 1916 Velma deid Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010 in her home in Topaz, where she has lived for 22 years. She was 94.
Velma and her husband Frank have had many businesses together, starting in 1958 in Bishop, they then moved to Mammoth where they opened a hardware store and two mini markets along with their plumbing contracting business.

Supes uphold disputed decision

In response to claims that it violated the Brown Act, the Inyo County Board of Supervisors said Tuesday that it could have worded an agenda item from its Aug. 24 meeting better, but voted not to change its stance on the Big Pine Re-Greening Project at this time.
The board did agree to revisit the scoping document at the next Inyo-County Los Angeles Standing Committee meeting to review a new alternative for the project that will prevent the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power from activating a well that the Big Pine Tribe says will deplete its water table.

Five missing hikers found near Lone Pine

Two groups of hikers were stranded in the Sierra Nevada near Lone Pine caught in the October storms. One group made its way out of the Meysan Lakes area, but ended up more than 50 miles off course while the other group was stuck on top of Mount Whitney.
