Arthur ‘Jack’ Long, Jr.

Born Nov. 26, 1934 in Grass Valley to Arthur and Edna Long, Arthur died at his home in Yerington, Nev. on Friday morning, Feb. 25, 2011 after a brief illness. He was 76.
Jack married Patricia Webb on Feb. 8, 1968 in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
A group of Southern Inyo residents hope to boost the Lone Pine economy and quality of life by building a brand new multi-purpose community center in Spainhower Park.
The Lone Pine Community Center Planning Committee appeared before the Board of Supervisors Tuesday to request support for a plan to build the 200-person capacity center, using funds donated by local philanthropist Dave Haas.
After three months of door-to-door campaigning, increasing yard signage and glossy fliers appearing in mailboxes, the race for two Bishop City Council seats will be soon be decided.
Once the polls close Tuesday, March 8, the three candidates vying for those two seats – newcomer Jim Ellis and incumbents Jeff Griffiths and Bruce Dishion – will also know their political fates.
With the fate of Owens Valley School up in the air due to declining enrollment, a recent study has shined some light on options for educating youth in Independence.
A study committee made up of representatives from Lone Pine, Owens Valley and Big Pine school districts released its consolidation study regarding the future of Owens Valley School as it faces lapsation.
Owens Valley School District will lapse if it falls below the state-mandated 12 students.
It currently has 11 kids enrolled.

Donna Jean Loge
A celebration of life will be held from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at the Bishop VFW Post at 484 Short St. for 26-year Bishop resident Donna Jean Loge.
Born Aug. 30, 1945 in Portland, Ore., Donna died Feb. 16, 2011 at Carson Tahoe Hospital. She was 65.
Donna was a very caring person, always putting others before herself. She did nursing and home healthcare.
Summer was always fun for Donna and her friends because it was swimming and barbecue time. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Bishop VFW Post No. 8988.
Louise Molly Allen
Following her cremation, a small family celebration of the life of Louise Molly Allen will be set for a future date.
Born Dec. 25, 1925 in Odessa, Texas, Louise died peacefully at Northern Inyo Hospital on Feb. 16, 2011. She was 85.
Louise was the youngest of 12. She moved to Los Angeles at 18 where she met her future husband Leo and married at age 20. They raised nine children in Encino, where she also worked as a certified nurses assistant for 20 years at the motion picture hospital. Louise retired to Bishop in 1996 and was a lifelong Christian.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date for Big Pine resident Renee Boling.
Born March 26, 1960 in Bishop to Frank and Peggy Coons, Renee died at home Feb. 13, 2011, following a prolonged illness.
Renee grew up in Bishop, leaving the area in the 1980s and returning in 2006.
She raised four children and cherished each and every one of them. Her family describes her as a woman who would give her heart and soul for anyone. She was a fantastic woman and great mom.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tamera Lynne Pueblo; and her parents.
Ward Arnold Swadley
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at the First Assembly of God Church, 550 E. Post St. in Lone Pine, for Ward Arnold Swadley. Pastor Mike Skaggs will officiate. The family is inviting friends to join them after the service for a luncheon at the church.
Born Oct. 2, 1925 in Missouri, Ward died Feb. 13, 2011 in Lancaster. He was 85.
Leon ‘Buck’ Bills
Services are pending for 80-year Olancha resident Leon “Buck” Bills. The family plans to gather in early summer to celebrate his life.
Born Dec. 31, 1917 in Indiahoma, Okla., Buck died Feb. 18, 2011 in Lone Pine. He was 93.
