Mule Days event organizers announced Tuesday that concert headliner Terri Clark has cancelled her May 24 appearance at the Tri-County Fairgrounds.
“It’s our understanding Ms. Clark cancelled four West Coast appearances in May, including ours, due to scheduling conflicts,” Barbara Laughon, Bishop Mule Days spokesman, said. “While naturally this is a disappointment, we are in talks with another nationally-recognized vocalist who is willing to step in at this late date.”

Project to revitalize Bishop’s commercial corridor

Second home destroyed by second fire in Big Pine

Two separate fires in Big Pine Saturday destroyed two separate homes, one on Hill Street and a second at the end of West Street in an area known as Indian Camp.
According to Big Pine Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Marzano, Big Pine firefighters were just mopping up after the home fire on Hill Street when the call came in at about 4:30 p.m. for a second structure fire on West Street.
Officials with CalFire are looking into the cause of the structure fire at Indian Camp although no foul play is suspected, according to the chief.

Joanne “Joie” Hutchinson, most recently of Ventura, passed away at Sherman Oaks Hospital on March 24. She was born in El Centro on June 5, 1929.
Joie enjoyed retirement in Independence, having been introduced to the Eastern Sierra when she was a young adult, by her mother, Lynette (Dolly) Hutchinson.

George Robert Drummond was born April 16, 1920 in Drummonds, Tenn. He died Jan. 17, 2012 in Las Vegas. George was an Owens Valley resident for 65 years, having migrated from East Prairie, Mo. in 1939.

Delwyn ‘Del’ E. Hronesh

Delwyn ‘Del’ E. Hronesh passed away Wednesday evening, March 28, 2012 at the South Lyon Medical Center/Long Term Care in Yerington, Nevada. He was 88.
Del was born in Santa Ana on Aug. 2, 1923 the son of Edward and Viva (Worthy) Hronesh.

(née Exley)

Deborah Margaret Barlow (nee Exley) passed away on March 29 after a short fight with pneumonia and leukemia. She was born in St. Paul, Minn. to Gerald and Lorraine Exley on Jan. 22, 1953. Debbie moved to Orange County in 1984 and to her home in the mountains in Swall Meadows in 2009.  

Home lost, but lives saved

A Big Pine resident is being hailed as a hero after noticing smoke coming from a neighbor’s house and breaking down the door to wake the sleeping occupants.
According to the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, Galen and Veronica Moore, of 994 Bowers St. in Big Pine, saw black smoke rising from their neighbor’s home at 994 Hill St. Saturday morning.
“As Galen ran up to the residence he could see flames on the east side of the residence,” the press release states. “Galen attempted to open the front door but the door handle was too hot.”

City to apply for $1.1 million grant on IMACA’s behalf

City leaders are teaming up with the Inyo Mono Advocates for Community Action to apply for state funds to tear down and rebuild a senior living facility that has been in operation since the 1940s.
Last week, the Bishop City Council approved IMACA’s request that the city apply for $1.1 million of state Community Development Block Grant to reconstruct the Valley Apartments on Clarke Street.
