A traffic stop for a âminor traffic infractionâ has landed three Southern California residents in jail on felony charges.
The Bishop Police Department announced late Monday afternoon the early-morning arrests of Raymond Louis Rodriguez, 25, of Upland, Toni Lorell Zarate, 27, of Azusa, and Ky Ta, 38, of Alta Loma, on numerous drug-related charges â including transporting and possessing controlled substances for the purposes of selling them.
The Bishop Police Department announced late Monday afternoon that it is investigating yet another case of alleged embezzlement in the City of Bishop.
According to Bishop PD Public Information Officer Katie Coffman, police were notified last Thursday, April 29 of âpossible embezzlement occurring at Inyo Mono Body Shop.â The specific charge the PD is now investigating is 508 PC, the California Penal Code for embezzlement of more than $950.

Team Sierra, a group of friends and family members from Southern California, has made Convict Lake their annual vacation destination every Opening Day for the past several years. The group arrives early, setting up at its favorite spot on the south shore at midnight and waiting until sun-up to cast a line. Clerk-Recorder Kammi Foote, serving as co-chair of the California Clerk-Recorders Legislative Committee, has been working to prevent the passage of SB 391, the California Homes and Jobs Act.

That the Bishop Broncos baseball team beat the Desert Scorpions Friday afternoon at Edwards Air Force Base is not much of a surprise. That they beat them 20-1 is significant. The resurrection of the Broncosâ bats at home against Rosamond last Tuesday was no fluke. The Bishop bats are back.
And, theyâll get another good workout at California City this afternoon before hosting the two High Desert League teams that handed Bishop back-to-back road losses two weeks ago.
The Bishop Lady Broncos softball team came back from its loss to the undefeated Rosamond Roadrunners, demolishing the Desert Scorpions on the road, 14-4, Friday.
âThe girls did well under hot conditions and varying field positions,â said coach Stacy Van Nest. âWe still continue to work hard to diminish defensive errors.â
The Broncos travel to Cal City this afternoon, then host Frazier Mountain, Friday, and Kern Valley, Tuesday. Bishop is 5-1 in High Desert League, 11-7 overall.

The Bishop Broncos JV baseball and Lady Broncos softball squads demolished the Desert Scorpions Friday with 11-7 and 2-0 wins, respectively.
âWeâre on the right track for another perfect High Desert League record,â said baseball coach Chris Walston. âWeâve got a week until we play Frazier at home Friday which will allow us to get all the kinks out.â
Daniel Olsen, Zack De Leo and Alex Armitage all got their chance on the mound. âAll three threw well, especially with the plate umpireâs low strike zone,â Walston said. âThey all adapted well.â

Home Street Middle School announced this week the launching of a unique fundraising activity in which the community can be âColted.â
Basically, if residents wake up to find an obnoxiously painted wooded colt in their yard, theyâve been âColted.â
But itâs all in good fun â and for a good cause, according to the school.
âVictimsâ of the colt prank can call HSMS at (760) 872-1381 to have the hideously-painted likeness of the schoolâs mascot removed, or, for a $25 donation, can select the coltâs next resting place.
Roxanna Foley, 52, of Bridgeport, was arraigned today in federal court in Sacramento.
She was indicted on April 18 by a federal grand jury on charges of theft and âembezzlement by a bank employee,â according to the U.S. Attorneyâs Office.
The indictment alleges that Foley embezzled approximately $320,000 from Eastern Sierra Community Bank over a four-month period.
She was employed at the bank as a manager.

In yet another sign that summer is on its way to the Eastern Sierra, Caltrans has removed the packed winter snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to open State Route 108 over Sonora Pass.
âThe diligent work of Caltrans crews enabled the opening of the pass for motorists who utilize this route,â said Public Information Officer Florene Trainor. âCaltrans crews responsible for the pass opening extend their best wishes for safe summer traveling to those who enjoy the recreational opportunities this part of California has to offer.â
