A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for long-time Bishop resident, Raymond (Ray) Christian Schaaf. Father John Gracey will officiate the service. Interment will be at the West Line Street Pioneer Cemetery in Bishop. A Rosary service was held Friday, Dec. 5 at the Brune Mortuary Chapel.
Born Dec. 29, 1932 in New England, N.D. to Rafael and Mary Schaaf, Ray passed away Nov. 12, 2014 at the age of 81 in LaVerne, surrounded by his children.

Carl Leroy McKellips, an 82-year resident of Bishop, passed away at Renown Medical Center, in Reno on Dec. 1, 2014.
Leroy was a Korean War veteran who was proud to serve his country. He was a private 1st class in the Army. He was recognized for his excellent marksmanship. He loved the Owens Valley and all it had to offer.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Noreen; sons, David and Neil; daughter, Karen; mother and father, Carl and Martha; sisters, Bobbie and Dodi; brothers, Don, Dean and Johnny.

Born Nov. 7, 1972 in Bishop, Christopher Allen Charlie Sr. passed away in Bishop. He was 42.
Christopher Allen Charlie Sr. is survived by his two sons, Christopher Allen Charlie Jr. and Matthew Edison Charlie; daughter, Elissa Charlie; mother, June Piper and husband, Floyd Piper Sr.; sisters, Dawn Durant and Kristie Doll; brother, David Doll Jr.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces; and many friends who were part of his life.

Mary Jane Cole, age 96, of Livingston, Mont., passed away Nov. 17, 2014 at Springmeadows Assisted Living Facility.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Miki and Jim Strong; two grandsons, Jeff and Troy Mischell; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by second cousin, Glen
Bailey of Portland,
Ore. Stepgrandson Ryan Strongand his two children were important to her also.

Merchant Appreciation Party planned for Tuesday

Bishop Union High School’s Foundation for Excellence is planning a “Merchant Appreciation Holiday Party” to say thanks to all the local businesses who have supported the group over the past year.
 The BUHS Foundation for Excellence is a non-profit fundraising organization that relies on local support to help BUHS provide a quality education to local students.

What everyone expects to be the worst school Christmas pageant ever turns out to be pretty darn good in author Barbara Robinson’s “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”
The story is a “hilarious yet insightful story of a small town church that puts on the Christmas Story as a pageant that end ups in a different way … Come prepared to be entertained,” said John Louth, who co-directs the production with Gail Swain.

BREAKING: Inyo County man arrested, charged with poaching deer

California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers have arrested a suspected poacher in Inyo County for illegally killing a trophy 3X3 deer in the G-3 zone – an area highly valued by hunters for its quality of deer and the limited number of tags issued for it each year.
Joseph Eugene Bragdon, 37, of Bishop was taken into custody without incident at his workplace today after a $15,000 arrest warrant was issued by the Inyo County District Attorney’s Office.
