Jeffrey Clifton Paco, Sr. beloved husband, father, son and grandpa, was born Aug. 25, 1964 to Jess Robert Paco Sr. and Virginia Jelinek.  
He married Maria Elaine Vega on Aug. 25, 1985.

Bishop AYSO ends season with big wins

Bishop AYSO teams recorded wins at both the Toiyabe League and tournament levels last weekend to end their Spring Select soccer season.
The eight-week season culminated at the Toiyabe Tournament, June 2-3 at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City, Nev.
The two Bishop Under-10 girls teams finished one-two in league with coach Eric Tillemans’ team taking first with 27 points over coach Winzenread’s team with 25 points.
Coach Chuy Gonzales’ U10 boys team finished third in league play.

Ghost Peppers, BSers score victories

The Bishop Nursery Ghost Peppers crept past the Reds in Division C of the Bishop Adult Softball League action Tuesday night.
The division leader, Bad Company, wasn’t as lucky with a 1-17 loss to the BSers.
The Reds jumped out to a 0-4 lead in the top of the first. Taylor Neubauer scored the first run off a double from Earl Lent.
With two runners on and 2 outs, Darren Spoonhunter slammed an in-the-park home run to the fenceline to bring in 3 runs for the 0-4 lead.
The Peppers got off to a slow start in the bottom of the inning.

Local teens given sobering truth about distracted driving

When Bishop California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Dennis Cleland asked the Lone Pine High School student body IMPACT Teen Drivers assembly audience, “What is lethal,” they called out answers like: driving under the influence, using a cell phone, texting, driving with both ear phones in, drugs, no seat belts and even eating. Cleland commented on that last one. “Yes, that’s the deadliest restaurant.”

Sierra Nevada Conservancy board to meet in Inyo

With major decisions to be made in regards to the Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery, the Sierra Nevada Conservancy has scheduled a busy week that includes a tour of the facility outside of Independence, the award of nearly $5 million in grants and a reception.

Bishop Little League update

Bishop Little League season is coming to an end with closing ceremonies scheduled for Saturday, June 16 from 10 a.m.-noon on Field 3 at Bishop City Park.
The league governing board will be holding elections for five vacant positions that same Saturday, 11 a.m.-noon. Anyone interesting in a board position should fill out a Volunteer Application to be submitted to Information Officer Ilissa Twomey for placement on the ballot by Wednesday, June 13.
All members in good standing are eligible to vote in the election June 16 from 11 a.m.-noon at Field 3.

Mono remains may belong to Bishop bank robbery suspect

A grim discovery in Mono County earlier this week may have re-opened the book on a two-year-old bank robbery case out of Bishop.
Mono sheriff’s deputies located the remains Tuesday of a man believed to be Steven Craig Wiswell, the suspect in the March 17, 2010 armed robbery of Bishop’s Chase Bank.
According to Mono County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Robert Weber, deputies were notified about 3 p.m. May 22 that residents in the Benton area had possibly found a human skull off a dirt road, in tall sage brush, on the west side of U.S. 6 near Benton.
