REGPA revisions up for discussion

The Inyo County Board of Supervisors will begin its regular open session meeting today at 10 a.m. and then, at 1:30 p.m., will discuss modifications to the Draft Renewable Energy General Plan Amendment.
This meeting is open to the public and time will be set aside for residents to make comments to the board.

City wants to partner with county on sales tax increase

Bishop City Administrator Keith Caldwell will be going before the Inyo County Board of Supervisors today to propose a joint increased sales tax that could help fund local services, such as police and fire departments for the city, and solid waste disposal for the county.
Officials in Bishop are considering placing a Transaction and Use Tax increase on the Nov. 4 ballot and are hoping the county will want to join forces in the effort to bring in much-needed revenue.
Currently, Inyo County charges a .05 percent TUT.

Local playwright’s latest work takes on family, redemption

Mary Ann Braidhill passed away at home, surrounded by her family on April 27, 2014 at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Benjamin Willis Chiles and Pinckney Lafayette Twitty.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Marshall Chiles and Benjamin W. Chiles, Jr.; sisters, Sarah Catherine Tucker, Pinckney Louise Masters, Martha Elizabeth LaRuey and Betty Sue Smith; and son, Ronald Ray Grimble.

Eleanor Elaine Humphres, age 62, resident of Mono County for 11 years, born in Tulare County on Aug. 15, 1951 passed away on April 27, 2014 at the Bishop Care Center.
Eleanor was a good hearted person; she would do anything for you. Loved by her family, the layaway Queen of Tulare County, her life was on her own terms.
She is survived by sisters, Shirley C Muranda and Sandra Bazzle; sons, Albert Lisenbery and Scott Lisenbery; grandsons, Evert, Calvin and Albert Lisenbery; granddaughter Liz Lisenbery; and two nieces, Alpha Castellanos and Judy Bazzle.

Blum, also Miss California USA’s Miss Congeniality, is featured in a three-page spread in the soon-to-be released Summer 2014 issue of Pageantry magazine, the most recognized pageant publication worldwide.

Mule Days concert sold out

Mule Days announced Friday that tickets for the Dave Stamey and Baxter Black Concert, scheduled for Thursday, May 22, have sold out. It’s been at least 10 years since a Mule Days concert has sold out prior to the event.

PD looking into 1996 missing persons case

The Bishop Police Department has re-opened a cold case from 1996 in hopes of solving the 18-year-old missing persons case and bringing closure to a local family.
