Morgan Wade Kinney Sr. was born in Bishop, California on May 4, 1959 to Harold Kinney Sr. and Beverly Yandell Kinney. Morgan grew up and attended school in Bishop. He worked as a laborer until he suffered a debilitating back injury.
Morgan had three children, Marcus Kinney Sr., Morgan (Jake) Kinney Jr. and Marla Kinney, before meeting the love of his life, Juanita Butterbredt Kinney.

City considering solar power

The Bishop City Council decided last week to proceed with a solar project that could save city taxpayers millions of dollars through efficiencies and rebates.
For several years, the city has been interested in photovoltaic solar generation projects that would decrease Bishop’s carbon footprint and reduce operating costs.

Council splits vote on Chamber funding

City leaders voted last Monday to invest $125,600 in local programs and services, and maintain a $28,400 General Fund contingency that will allow the city to invest in infrastructure upgrades.
At the Nov. 24 meeting, the Bishop City Council opted to reduce its contribution to the Bishop Visitors Bureau in light of the recent formation of the Bishop Tourism Improvement District.

Inyo fugitive stopped at Canada border

A fugitive facing sex crime charges in Inyo County was arrested earlier this month while apparently trying to cross the border into Canada.
Brian Patrick Quines, 36, is now behind bars in Inyo County Jail after being detained by a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent on Nov. 13 at the Peace Arch Land Point of Entry, a vehicle border crossing in Blaine, Wash.
It is believed Quines was trying to cross into Canada and from there, fly out of North America to avoid prosecution on at least four felony charges involving allegedsexual abuse of a minor.

Supes set to rule on Adventure Trails Tuesday

The Inyo County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to make a final decision on the proposed Adventure Trails Environmental Impact Report at its meeting this Tuesday.
The Inyo County Planning Commission reviewed five alternatives for the Adventure Trails proposal earlier this month. That advisory group made no formal recommendation to the board, but did accept comments from dozens of residents and visitors.
On Tuesday, the board will hold a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. to gather input on the proposal from residents and visitors.

Vanna June Moodie passed away Nov. 10, 2014 at Mammoth Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Bryant Moodie; daughter, Brianna; parents, Robert and Nancy Murray; brother, Russell and his wife, Robin Murray; and nieces, Mariah and Hannah, all of Bishop.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 181 Sierra Manor Rd., Suite 1 in Mammoth Lakes.
