Court idea raises ire

As Bishop officials continue to weigh the Administrative Office of the Courts’ proposal to build a court facility on municipal property behind City Hall, the public response so far has been overwhelmingly negative.
The actual plans for the new Inyo County courthouse in Bishop are still on hold, meanwhile, pending necessary documentation.

New CEO at helm of Inyo County paper

Inyo County’s hometown newspaper will be heading into its 144th year with a new leader at the helm.
Rena Mlodecki has been appointed the new CEO/publisher of the Register effective March 3. She brings with her 36 years of experience in the newspaper industry, along with a commitment to excellence deeply rooted in the values of community journalism.
Mlodecki is settling in and enjoying getting to know both the area and its people.
“I am pleased to already have met a very friendly variety of business owners and residents,” she said.

Community comes together to support Alice Piper project

“Who is Alice Piper” is the question driving the Big Pine Unified School District and Big Pine Paiute Tribe in the effort to raise funds for a statute honoring the Paiute from Fish Lake Valley.
The life-size statue, designed by Matt Glenn of Big Statues in Provo, Utah from a sketch done by Robert Guiteriez, will be placed on the front lawn of the Big Pine High School, surrounded by a garden area and seating.

Inyo-Mono Promise widens pathway to college

Cerro Coso Bishop campus’ hallway was packed on Tuesday with Inyo and Mono county educators, local officials, students and other community members at a reception for University of Nevada at Reno staff in a celebration of the Inyo-Mono Promise.

NIH honors loyal employees

Long-term employees were recently recognized by Northern Inyo Hospital during an annual event meant to honor those recording milestone years with the healthcare facility.
NIH hosted a breakfast celebration at the Tallman Pavilion at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop on Feb. 13, honoring 61 employees for five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35 and 40 years of service to the hospital district.
