ICARE of the Eastern Sierra is making the final push towards raising $800,000 for a new animal shelter in Big Pine.
During a presentation to the Inyo County Board of Supervisors March 25, ICARE President Ted Schade said that about $726,000 has been raised for the Raise the Roof – A Cause for Paws campaign. “We have about $70,000 to go to build the facility we think we need. We’re not there yet, we really haven’t reached the goal, but this is the final push, we’re in the home stretch.”
A trial date for the embezzlement case filed against Bishop residents Kenneth and Dawndee Rossy has been set for Oct. 6, 2014 in Independence.
The Rossys are accused of embezzling more than $1.5 million from the public assistance program at Inyo County Health and Human Services, among other charges. A hearing was scheduled earlier this month so Inyo County courts could consider a motion filed by the defense to have comments Dawndee made to investigators suppressed. However, that hearing has been postponed.
