MARCH 15, 2014 –– This is a saga of a soggy day for some sons of the sod who binged on blarney, loaded up with liquid courage and made their Irish ancestors proud.
As the luck of the Irish would have it, I was there to record their achievement: Taking part in the shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade ever held.
Pat Beck, long-time resident on Irene Way, died peacefully on March 9, 2014 at Grangeville Health and Rehab in Grangeville, Idaho. She was 84 years old. Born in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1929, to Ora and Lena Mae Rupe, she moved to Los Angeles at age 16 where she married the love of her life, Mel Beck, in 1950. They moved to Bishop in 1957 with their three children. Mel owned and managed Highway Auto Service and Beck’s Backhoe Service until his death in 1978.
