Council closer to daytime meetings

Bishop’s City Council is one step closer to changing its meeting times from evening to afternoon.
By a split vote of 4-1, the council approved the first reading of an ordinance Monday night that could eventually change the way the elected panel has historically done business.
The move is being proposed as a cost-saver, one of many being considered over the past several months as department heads and the council brainstorm ways to reduce expenses in the face of less revenue.

Water distribution big issue for Water Association

The lack of water, everywhere, reached critical mass Monday night at the annual meeting of the Bishop Creek Water Association. The meeting venue had to be moved to accommodate nearly 100 people.
While little could be resolved in the face of a possible third year of drought conditions, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Aqueduct Manager Jim Yannotta expressed a willingness to work with Southern California Edison, the utility that controls the flows out of Bishop Creek reservoirs at Lake Sabrina and South Lake.

Manhunt ends in arrest

Inyo County’s Special Weapons Enforcement Team, a multi-agency equivalent of a SWAT team, ended a manhunt in the Bishop area this morning by taking Allen Harlan Stone, 24, of Bishop, into custody on two felony warrants.
Two other subjects, Emmett James Davis, III, 21, of Bishop and David Martinez, 34, of Bishop, were also taken into custody.
According to Sheriff Bill Lutze, Stone was wanted on felony warrants and had eluded local law enforcement for the past month.
