Terry Marie (Reed) Sepsey
1956-2013

Terry Marie (Reed) Sepsey was born on Feb. 24, 1956 at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop and passed quietly at Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nev. on March, 3 2013 with her children by her side. She was 57 and a beautiful and loving young woman.
Born to Nancy and Edwin “Sandy” Reed, Terry was the younger of two daughters.
Having lived most of her life in the Owens Valley, Terry enjoyed the outdoors, working with friends and lovingly raised four children, Daniel, Amber, Ryan and Rahn.

Inyo, BrightSource settle on project mitigation figure

After nearly two years of negotiations, county leaders have come to an accord with BrightSource Energy regarding financial compensation for impacts that will be created by a tax-exempt 250-megawatt solar facility BrightSource wants to build.
BrightSource proposes constructing the 5.1 square-mile solar plant in remote Southeast Inyo, just west of the Nevada border near Charleston View. Local leaders, including Inyo County Sheriff Bill Lutze, have said that impacts created by the project will increase costs to the county.

City agrees to back IMACA project

When faced with a choice between two entities vying for grant funding through the city to pay for community projects, Bishop leaders on Monday chose to back local seniors.
The City Council unanimously voted to apply for a Community Development Block Grant on behalf of the Inyo-Mono Advocates For Community Action in its efforts to improve living conditions at the Valley Apartments on Clarke Street. The council said it was a “hard decision” to back IMACA over Mammoth Lakes Housing, which was requesting funds to continue its first-time homebuyers program.

‘Pink Ladies’ gear up for blood drive, fundraising efforts

The Pink Ladies are always busy anyway but right now they are in the midst of a flurry of activities aimed at bolstering their continued contributions to the local hospital.
The Northern Inyo Hospital’s Auxiliary’s affectionately nicknamed the Pink Ladies are beefing up their membership, spiffing up their gift shop inventory, amping up their fundraising – and, oh yes, planning the upcoming blood drive it helps organize for United Blood Services. All of this is, as always, in service of NIH and its patients.

Program helping young immigrants stay in U.S. legally

Local immigrant youth are starting to take advantage of a fast-track immigration program that could successfully net them a work permit, driver’s licence and other documentation.
One local youth has taken advantage of a recent governmental immigration policy change to get legitimate U.S. residency and continue with his education here. Although he declined to give his name, he reports that his experience is “a positive thing” though stressful, and that he is currently obtaining a driver’s licence and Social Security card.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16 at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in Bishop, for long-time Owens Valley resident William E. “Bill” Wright, Jr. Burial will be at East Line Street Cemetery, followed by a reception at St. Timothy’s Church.

Harry LeRoy Whitman
1935-2013

The Lord chose Sunday, March 3, 2013 to quietly and peacefully bring Harry home after a year-long battle with cancer. The Lord had placed Harry on this sod on Feb. 17, 1948 to spend some time raising a beautiful family and doing a few things that God had planned for his life, including two years of service to our country in the U.S. Army.

1935-2013

Darlis Shirley Nakken, age 77 and long time resident of Bishop, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Shirley was born in Grass Valley on Aug. 25, 1935 to Floyd and Dorothy (Lutz) Dorrell and was the oldest of three children. A 59-year marriage began Jan. 17, 1954 when Shirley and John eloped to Reno. They moved to Bishop in 1965.
Shirley enjoyed gardening, was an avid bowler and served as secretary of the Wednesday night bowling league for more than three decades. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Lillian (Jo) Lavell, 72, of Gridley, Calif., passed away on March 11, 2013 in Chico. She was born April 6, 1940 in Loma Linda to Gene and Florence Stockman.

Outside-the-box attitude guides new Bishop eatery

It’s no secret that there will be a big party with nibbles, noshes and music at the grand opening of a local eatery this weekend.
The Secret Sandwich Society owners Kymberlee Nalumaluhia and her husband have joined forces with associates Kate Clarke and Sterling Schat to expand the business to include The Yard Sale Café, a new, sit-down, mid-day eatery in Bishop. Everyone is invited to join the grand opening from 4-7 p.m. this Saturday, March 16 at 124 S. Main St. behind Spellbinder Books.
