Linda Kay Bostrom Marks
1943-2013

Linda Bostrom Marks, born in Salt Lake City in 1943, passed away at Salem Hospital in Oregon, a month after a serious illness put her in the hospital. She battled the devastating c. def bacteria but it left her too weak to make a comeback and she slipped away from us on June 11, 2013. She was the third of four children born to Al and “Bink” Bostrom and grew up with her older siblings Dan and Sandie, in Darwin, Manzanar and Lone Pine. At age 13 she found herself replaced as the baby of the family when her younger sister, Shawn, was born.

Cooling centers set up countywide

In response to the extremely high, potentially life-threatening temperatures expected this weekend, local officials have collaborated to have “cooling centers” and other disaster relief services at the ready.
Working on the effort are Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, Health and Human Services and the office of County Administrator Kevin Carunchio, the county disaster services coordinator.

DWP not responsible for Keeler Dunes

Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power have reached an agreement on how to control dust on the Keeler Dunes and one of the last stretches of Owens Lake targeted for dust control.
An agreement that was approved this week by both the LADWP and Great Basin will allow Los Angeles to work around certain culturally-sensitive sites identified within the Phase 7a dust mitigation project. The LADWP and Great Basin will determine if and how dust will be mitigated in areas containing Native American artifacts at a later date.

Mary C. Terrasas, age 76, resident of Bishop for 12 years, born in Flagstaff, Ariz. on Dec. 22, 1936, passed away on June 24, 2013 peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a resident of Bakersfield and Sacramento before retiring here with husband Margarito. She worked for the Elk Grove School District in food services. Mary was an avid bingo player.
She was preceded in death by husband, Margarito in 2011.

Glenn Allen Cyrus, age 48, resident of Las Vegas for six years, born in Bishop on Sept. 6, 1964, passed away June 19, 2013 in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Latisha (Gabriel), Allison and Morgan; sons, Kevin and Zachariah; three grandchildren, Swayze, Jeremiah and Jett; father, Bud; sisters, Debbie (Gary) and Rosenda (John); brothers, Mike and Nat; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many, many cousins.
