Teamwork lands Bishop a big win

October 16, 2013

In a game of five rapid sets, Bishop’s Lady Broncos volleyball squad fought hard against Frazier Mountain to earn the victory in the tie-breaker.
Though it’s still early in High Desert League action, the win over the Frazier Falcons was a near-necessity in the Broncos run for the league championship.
Game one was a reflection of the entire match. Neither team enjoyed more than a 3-point advantage through to the 23-25 win for the Falcons. For every points run from the Broncos, the Falcons answered with heavy fortification at the net.

Broncos start league tomorrow

October 16, 2013

The Bishop Broncos football team can clear the slate and start from scratch tomorrow night at Cal City. It’s the first High Desert League game of the season and Bishop’s 0-0. The team’s 2013 pre-league season has been a rough one.
The Broncos faced off against the Desert Scorpions last Friday night on the road in what certainly qualifies as the hardest-fought game of the year.

October 16, 2013

The Lone Pine Lady Golden Eagles traveled to Mammoth to take on the Lady Huskies (ranked number 3 CIF Division V-AA) Tuesday afternoon and were defeated 9-25, 15-25, 17-25.
Unlike last Friday’s team effort, the Lady Eagles were never able to find their rhythm and passed out of system. “We had no offensive production and defensively did not play with intensity,” said coach Mel Joseph.

Lone Pine Eagles score the win

October 14, 2013

The Big Pine Warriors were coming off a tough loss to Lee Vining; the Eagles were coming off their own Homecoming loss to Trona.
Both teams are young, but the Eagles had the advantages of numbers over the tough, tenacious 9-man Warriors’ squad.
Big Pine didn’t deliver the win, but they put up some good numbers in the second half, ending the game with a spectacular TD pass from Kelby Chirrick to Jacob Bacoch in the end zone and following up with the 2-point conversion for a final score of 48-16.

Lady Warriors tame the Tigers

October 14, 2013

The Big Pine Lady Warriors gave the Homecoming crowd a little bit of everything Saturday morning in their re-match with the Lee Vining Lady Tigers. But most important, the young volleyball team got the win.
The Warriors had to fight back from a 5-point deficit early in game one for the 25-19 win. Game two turned into a nail-biter with Big Pine ahead by 13 before the Tigers poured on a series of points runs before the Warriors put the win to bed at 25-20. Big Pine hit the wall in game three, losing 18-25 before matching the Tigers point for point in game four and pulling out a 25-22 win.
