Lady Broncos Basketball Mandatory Parents Meeting
There will be a mandatory meeting for parents of this yearâ€™s Bishop Lady Broncos basketball players. The meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 28, 6:30 p.m. at the Bishop High School library.

Eastern Sierra Girls Softballâ€™s
Mark those calendars for Saturday, Nov. 9 for the Eastern Sierra Girls Softballâ€™s Bingo Night, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Barlow Gym in Bishop.
A downed airplane belonging to a Big Pine man was located Thursday morning near Huntington Lake on the west side of the Sierra.
Fresno County sheriffâ€™s officials also located the pilot, who has yet to be identified, with unknown injuries.
Sheriffâ€™s Deputy Chris Curtice said that the pilot was flown from the crash site, about one mile south of Brown Peak, to the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno to be treated for injuries. Curtice said he did not know the extent of the pilotâ€™s injuries, but did confirm that he was the planeâ€™s only occupant.
Residents still have a couple more days to wear blue ribbons and help spread awareness of asthma â€“ a common condition that can also be fatal.
For the 17th year in a row, family and friends of the late Christopher John Schumacher are staging Blue Ribbon Asthma Awareness Week, Oct. 15-25, to not only honor Schumacherâ€™s memory, but to show support â€śfor all those who have asthma and know someone who suffers from asthma,â€ť according to organizers.
Schumacher was 14 â€“ just shy of his 15th birthday â€“ when he died from a severe asthma attack on Oct. 19, 1996.
Flora McBride Murphy
Flora McBride Murphy, 88, was born Sept. 23, 1925 in Mono Lake to Joe McBride, Sr. and Ida Tom-McBride. She is the granddaughter of Bridgeport Tom and Leanna Tom, and great-great-granddaughter of Captain Sam. Flora passed away Oct. 15, 2013 in Yerington, Nev.
As a child she attended school in Coleville, and later in her teen years she attended Stewart Indian School. She had technical training at Chemawa Indian School in Oregon as a welder, welding ships during World War II.
Richard T. Kennedy
Richard T. Kennedy passed away at Kaiser in Fresno on Oct. 6, 2013.
Richard started his career at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power on June 24, 1959 as a lineman. He moved up the ladder and retired as an electric distribution mechanic supervisor on Nov. 30, 1998.
Richard is survived by his three children, Richard T. Kennedy of Simi Valley, Mary M. Kennedy of Thousand Oaks and Winter Jackson of Bishop; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The highly-praised Tahoe Carson Radiology practice has received notice this month that its contract to provide service at the Northern Inyo Hospital Radiology Department has been cancelled, to the dismay of some NIH medical staff.
Working on posing, poise and public speaking, five young locals are in the midst of preparing for the second annual Miss/Miss Teen City of Bishop Pageant competition, which will be held next month.Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
This yearâ€™s contestants, all from Bishop, will compete for Miss City of Bishop and Miss Teen City of Bishop crowns starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the Bishop Union High School auditorium.
However, until the 2013-14 royalty is announced, 2012-13â€™s Miss City of Bishop Kristina Blum and Miss Teen City of Bishop Indica Morgenstein, still reign.
Lady Broncos now 4-0 in HDL with win over Roadrunners
The Bishop Lady Broncos volleyball team stayed on track Tuesday on the road with a 3-1 win over the Rosamond Lady Roadrunners.
Bishop dropped the first game 13-25, but came back with a vengeance, winning games two and three by a nose at 25-23 and 26-24, then romping through the winning game four at 25-17.
The Broncos stay perfect in High Desert League at 4-0, 17-5 overall.
Next up is a home game Tuesday, Oct. 29 with a re-match against the Cal City Ravens. The junior varsity game starts at 4 p.m., with varsity following around 5 p.m.

Lone Pine fill in
some football blanks
The Bishop Junior Varsity football squad werenâ€™t scheduled to take the field this Friday; Frazier has no JV team. The Lone Pine Golden Eagles won by a forfeit to Lee Vining last weekend and were scheduled for a bye this week. So, the two teams will meet at 4 p.m. this Friday at John Schwab field as part of Bishopâ€™s Homecoming extravaganza.
