Broncos’ inexperience hurts team in season opener

When a team loses its season opener, the initial response is to look at the what-ifs. What if Whittier Christian kicker, Derek Bush, hadn’t made 4 field goals, and the score would have been 29-20 instead of 41-20, a much more palatable points spread. There are probably a dozen more “what-ifs” to be analyzed, but it’s all fairly pointless. The Bishop Broncos lost to the very strong, seasoned Heralds Friday night.

Silver lining behind Lone Pine Eagles’ loss

Change some of the names and numbers and the Lone Pine Golden Eagles season opener against the Mineral County Serpents would sound a whole lot like the Broncos football opener against the Heralds. The Eagles fell 56-30 to the Serpents, but there is cause for hope in south county.

Torrance man falls to his death after summiting Mt. Whitney

A 60-year-old Southern California man fell to his death Sunday afternoon after summiting Mt. Whitney, the tallest peak in the Lower 48 states.
According to a press release from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Torrance resident Yukio Kato was on his way back to the Whitney Portal Trailhead from the 14,497-foot summit and was about a mile down the trail at an elevation of about 13,500 feet when he fell an estimated 200 feet off a cliff.
