WEDNESDAY, AUG. 21, 2013 â€“ A multi-agency search and rescue effort was launched at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night after Inyo County Sheriff's dispatch was notified of an overdue hiker.
According to Sheriff's Public Information Officer Carma Roper, 47 year-old Swall Meadows resident Matthew Mooney set out Tuesday for a day hike in the Rock Creek area. Mooney contacted family via cell phone at about noon Tuesday, saying he was returning from Round Valley Peak and would be home in a couple hours. He has not been seen or heard from since.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 21, 2013 â€“ For the first time ever, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will be offering live interactive telecasts of its Board of Commissioners meetings in the Owens Valley beginning with the Tuesday, Aug. 27 meeting.
The meeting will be televised at 1:30 p.m. in the LADWP Administrative Office at 300 Mandich St. in Bishop.
Charges are pending against a Benton man taken into custody Tuesday evening by Mono County Sheriffâ€™s deputies following what the department describes as a possible suicide attempt.
Sheriffâ€™s dispatch received a 911 call around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday regarding a shooting at the Mammoth Lakes Fish Hatchery, or Hot Creek Hatchery.
Deputies responded along with the California Highway Patrol, Mammoth Lakes Police Department, Mono County Paramedics and Long Valley Fire Department.

A handful of Lone Pine residents gathered at Statham Hall Monday evening to hear information about the new county consolidated office building that is being proposed in Bishop, but only a few residents voiced opinions or asked questions about the proposal.
Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce Director Kathleen New said she has heard a number of negative comments from various Southern Inyo County residents, and local leaders stressed that there are no plans to move offices or services from Lone Pine or any other communities to Bishop if the building is approved.
