TUESDAY, JULY 30 â€“â€“â€“ Inyo County sheriffâ€™s officials said an Orange County family is lucky to be alive after a single-engine airplane carrying them home from Mammoth Lakes had to make an emergency landing in a field south of Lone Pine.
According to Sheriffâ€™s Public Information Officer Carma Roper, pilot Sohail Simjee and three passengers, all of Orange County, flew out of the Mammoth-Yosemite Airport at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday in a small Bonanza aircraft.
TUESDAY, JULY 30 â€“â€“â€“ A 21-year-old Los Angeles resident started his Monday morning by allegedly brandishing a weapon at a jogger and ended it in Inyo County Jail, held without bail on multiple charges.
Tommy Courtney is being charged with armed robbery, brandishing a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, evading and parole violation.

Smoke from the fire, which grew another 2,000 acres overnight, has been plaguing Mammoth, Crowley Lake and Bishop for the past nine days â€“ obscuring views and contributing to elevated air pollution levels.
