An increased demand for help from the needy during the 2012 holiday season has infused a local ministryâs new-facility fundraising and building plans efforts with renewed vigor.
For three-and-a-half years, the Salvation Army has been planning to build a brand-new facility, designed to consolidate all of its programs, and as the corps nears the midway point in its $1 million capitol campaign fundraiser goal, an end may be in sight this year.
Wilford Thomas âBuddyâ Summers
Wilford Thomas âBuddyâ Summers was born Dec. 7, 1932 in Round Valley on the Arcularius Ranch and passed away quietly at his home in Bishop on Feb. 25, 2013 with his loved ones by his side. He was 80 years old. Buddy was a lifetime resident of the Owenâs Valley. He was the youngest of five children born to Marjorie and Tom Summers.
Betty Jean Bush
Betty has gone to her final home with the Lord. She was born in Shinnston, W.V. Aug. 7, 1950 to David and Amy Bush. She attended college before going into the Army in 1970 where she was a Podiatry Tech at William Beaumont and Walter Reed Hospitals.
After the military, she moved to Oxnard in 1978. She got into the Civil Service at Port Hueneme Naval Base as a financial analyst and retired in 2003.
