ICARE launches official fundraising campaign for new animal shelter

People in Inyo and Mono counties who love animals will be pleased to know a final, mighty effort is under way to get the rest of the money needed to build a brand new animal shelter and pet adoption center in Big Pine.
The fundraising campaign, organized by the ICARE animal welfare nonprofit, is being called “Raise the Roof – a Cause for Paws,” and is designed to wring the last of the capital needed from the Inyo/Mono community. About $300,000 is still required to build the facility, which is estimated to cost $800,000.

Arbitration panel finds impacts at Blackrock

A recent ruling on Inyo County’s claims that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s water-gathering efforts have had an adverse effect on vegetation in the Blackrock area is being viewed as a win for Inyo County, its residents and the environment.
On Oct. 21, a three-member arbitration panel released a 14-page decision about the dispute between Inyo County and the LADWP over whether LADWP’s groundwater pumping and surface water management practices have adversely affected vegetation in the approximately 330 acres of the Blackrock area.

New art walk coming to downtown Bishop

Leading the way in holiday festivities, this week’s inaugural Downtown Bishop Chocolate Art Walk will be a combination of a grand opening, art, music and, yes, chocolaty treats.
Event founder and key organizer Bruce Licher encourages everyone to attend his and wife Karen Neilsen Licher’s grand opening of The Project Room gallery in their shop, Independent Press Project, which is the centerpiece of the art walk’s agenda from 5-8 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 15.
