Three Bishop athletes medaled at the Fifth Annual Mammoth Winter Biathlon last Saturday. Anthony Sears (l) placed fourth with 13:22 in the 11- to 12-year-old group; Spencer Reid (c) finished second in the 9- to 10-year-old category with 17:39 and also in the 11- to 12-year age category, Clifton Yarborough finished 5th with 14:20. The Mammoth event is the largest biathlon in North America, combining cross country skiing and rifle shooting. The event was sponsored by the Eastern Sierra Nordic Ski Association.

Milton Chandler Buell, Sr.
1923-2012
Milton Chandler Buell, Sr., resident of Bishop for 13 years, born on June 23, 1923 in East Hartford, Conn., passed away March 22, 2012 at Northern Inyo Hospital. He was 88 years old.
He was preceded in death by wife, Elaine Buell; and sister, Nancy Barnes.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy March of Benton; sons, David Buell of Frazier Park,, Milton Buell, Jr. of Katy, Texas and Robert Buell of Brea; and sister, Janet Helm of S. Windsor, Conn.
Robert Ronald Behrendt, Jr.
1926-2012
Memorial Service for Robert Ronald Behrendt, Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Brune Mortuary, 325 W. Elm St. in Bishop.
Born Sept. 28, 1926 in Charleroi, Penn., Robert died March 18, 2012 at Renown Hospital in Reno.
He was educated at Sherwood Music Conservatory, Chicago, Ill. where he majored in Composition and Arranging. He did his general studies at DePaul University.
Bailey ‘Scooter’ McRoberts
1933-2012
Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend Bailey McRoberts passed away March 12, 2012 in Reno, Nev. at the age of 78.
Pee Wee (Wright) L. Jones
1927-2012
Pee Wee (Wright) L. Jones, 84, of Bishop, passed away on March 13, 2012, at Renown Hospital in Reno.
He was born on May 29, 1927 in Pasadena.
Harold E. Graves
1947-2012
Born June 17, 1947, Harold E. Graves went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
Harold transferred from Lone Pine with the company DoxilGas/Ferrell Gas to Prescott, Ariz.
He delivered propane in the Tri-City area and was well known for his willingness to always help and serve others.
His artistic ability to make something out of nothing won him several ribbons in various art shows.

The current job market slump called for Career Connections Job Fair presenters to get creative by encouraging job seekers to do the same.
While the pickings for actual employment opportunities offered at the March 16 job fair were slim, the message, especially from service agencies, was clear: looking for a job is a full time job – so develop a strategy and use it.

In an effort to make Inyo County’s recreational opportunities available for all, the Advocates for Access to Public Lands and the Bishop Lions Club recently completed an ADA accessible fishing deck at Rawson Pond No. 3.
While the deck is complete, AAPL and a handful of community volunteers are still working on rehabilitation projects at Buckley and Rawson ponds and, according to Project Coordinator and AAPL President Dick Noles, the fishery will not be in top shape for about a year.

As the U.S. Forest Service prepares to move forward with implementation of a new planning rule on the Inyo, Inyo County leaders are demanding that the federal agency gives local leaders a seat at the table as decisions on the plan are made.

With a little help from one of the world’s most famous skateboarders, the Lone Pine Skate Park Project is moving forward.
According to project organizer Lynne Bunn, the Tony Hawk Foundation recently announced that it will be donating $10,000 to the skate park fund.
