LADWP, Inyo undertake annual river-project review

December 14, 2012

Monitoring of the Lower Owens River Project has given Inyo County, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and residents an insight into how habitats on the project are developing.
Both LADWP and Inyo County Water Department officials said LORP goals were met this past year, despite dry conditions, and, over all, coordinated team-work between the LADPW and Inyo County, as well as consultants, has led to a growing habitat along the river.

December 12, 2012

Residents in Darwin learned earlier this month that the U.S. Postal Service will be suspending operations at their local post office, forcing them to retrieve their mail 25 miles away in Keeler, in a region of the county that does not have public transportation.
In a letter mailed to Darwin residents Nov. 30, the USPS said the Darwin Post Office, located at 251 Reddy St., will be suspended effective Monday, Dec. 31 because “lease negotiations with the current landlord have failed and attempts to locate a suitable new location within the city limits of Darwin have been unsuccessful.”

December 10, 2012

Independence residents rallied to the cry of a chainsaw last week when crews hired by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power began cutting down several trees in their community.
Residents said the LADWP had no right to remove the trees because they are located on county property adjacent to a City of Los Angeles parcel in Independence.
