Consuelo ‘Connie’ G. Valdez
1922-2012
Consuelo “Connie” G. Valdez was born in Laws on Feb. 3, 1922. She moved to Keeler a year later. She received her schooling in Keeler and at Lone Pine High School.
She was married in 1941 to Lorenzo “Val” Valdez then moved to Lone Pine and had two sons, Luis and Tom.
She participated in many community clubs and events.
She enjoyed family reunions, friends, fishing Crowley Lake and a few slots.
Walter Svetich
1930-2012
Walter Svetich, 81, of Chalfant passed away Feb. 25, 2012 at home. Born Oct. 11, 1930 in Dillon, Mont. to John and Caroline Svetich, he was the third of five children. He grew up in Dillon where during and after high school, he cowboyed on local ranches. Walt enlisted in the Navy in 1950. He was a seaman on the USS Windham Bay for two years during the Korean War. After the service, he cowboyed from Montana to Mexico on various ranches.

Eileen (Ellis) Leslie
1928-2012
Eileen was born in Silverton, Colo. on June 13, 1929 and passed away peacefully Feb. 16, 2012 at her home in Barstow. She was the oldest of seven girls born to Forest (Frosty) and Dora Ellis. She graduated from Bishop High School in 1948 and married Gene Leslie the same year. They moved to Barstow in 1965 when she went to work for California Interstate Telephone Company. After retiring, they returned to Barstow.
She loved fishing, quilting, scrounging and her family.

A generally receptive and supportive crowd received a presentation of the Lower Owens River Project Recreation Use Plan Friday evening, Feb. 24, at the Boulder Creek Club House in Lone Pine.
Consultant Dean Apostol of MIG previewed the results of the plan which includes three levels of options for offering recreational opportunities in and around the revitalized river.

Inyo County approved a resolution Tuesday to consolidate the City of Bishop General Election with the statewide General Election held on the first Tuesday of November on even-numbered years.
With approval from the Board of Supervisors, the city will now hold its General Election Nov. 6, 2012.
The approval of the consolidation means that in November, residents will be voting for president, state and federal officials and city council members, as well as Board of Supervisors members, should the June Primary result in run-offs for those county seats.
Plans to refurbish, revitalize and eventually reopen the long-defunct Cottonwood Plaza shopping center in Bishop will be moving forward.
A press release issued by the current owners reiterates the property holders’ commitment to both their commercial enterprise and the community – despite recent, and even tragic, setbacks.
Ray and Liz Eslamiyeh had vowed to get the shopping center opened to businesses as soon as possible upon closing escrow on the property last summer.
