Four of the five candidates for Bishop City Council met with an audience of about 30 residents Thursday evening to discuss local businesses and what they would do, if elected, to help Bishop’s economy.

Bishop leaders recently gave the go-ahead on two park-related issues and cleared up some wording in an ordinance dealing with the appointment of City Council members.
In light of Councilmember Jeff Griffithâs election to the Inyo County Board of Supervisors, which will take affect in January, city leaders met Monday to discuss guidelines for filling City Council vacancies.
The council unanimously approved an ordinance that will update the city code regarding council appointments.

Local high school students are joining their peers nation-wide in polishing recitation and life skills as they prepare for the 2012-13 Poetry Out Loud competition, where contestants stand to win prizes in the thousands of dollars.
âPoetry Out Loud national recitation contest introduces high school students to the magic of great poetry,â states the POL website, www.poetryoutloud.org.

However you describe what amounted to the Bishop Broncosâ league championship football game against the Kern Valley Broncs, it was, incontestably, one really exciting game. For the few Owens Valley residents who havenât already heard: Bishop was behind by 3 points on Kernâs 9 yard line with one second on the game clock; a Kyle Batchelder pass sailed into the hands of Curran Simpson and Bishop won by 3 at 34-31.

The Bishop Broncos take on the Rosamond Roadrunners Thursday, 7 p.m., at home for the final High Desert League. The win over KV Friday, clinches the league championship for Bishop.
