Alfred E. Morgan, age 89, resident of Bishop for 30 years, born Feb. 14, 1922 in Freedom, N.Y. passed away Sept. 5, 2011 in Bishop.

Lynn O. Newcomb, 91 years old, resident of Inyo County for one and a half years, born in Hollywood on May 21, 1920, passed away on Sept. 5, 2011 at the Bishop Care Center.
Gertrude ‘Gail’ Cooper
1920-2011
Born Nov. 19, 1920 in Big Pine, Gail passed away Sept. 5, 2011 at home in Bishop. She was 90 years old.
A funeral service will be at Big Pine Community United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Sept. 10. Rev. Dr. Karen Moore will officiate. Graveside service will follow at Big Pine Cemetery.
Carol Walters Cole
1934-2011
Carol was born Sept. 18, 1934 in Lovelock, Nev. to Mona Gracey and Carl H. “Bud” Walters of Independence and passed in Reno on Sept. 1, 2011 with family members at her side. The Walters family were an old pioneer family having settled at Camp Independence in 1869, and the Gracey family arriving in Independence in the early 1900’s.

Inyo County has agreed to enter exclusive negotiations with Joseph Enterprises for the purchase of property that can be used for consolidated office space.
Fifth District Supervisor Richard Cervantes opposed the exclusive agreement, saying that now is not the time for the county to go into debt to build new office space that would ultimately negatively impact the local community.
U.S. troops may be pulling out of Iraq, but the war rages on in Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan, and Americans continue to die in combat in all three hot zones.
With so many brave men and women still on today’s battlefields and in harm’s way, advocates at home and across the nation are reminding fellow citizens that while these troops are strong and dedicated, they still need a little tender loving care and the gift of knowing someone on the outside cares about them.

With Sunday marking the 10th anniversary on the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks, citizens are being asked to honor and recognize those who perished, the first responders who faced unspeakable horrors and those who spent the ensuing weeks on heartbreaking recovery efforts.
Bishop resident Mike Fennessy knows first-hand what those search and rescue efforts entailed, having arrived at Ground Zero early Sept. 12, and searching for the next two weeks for survivors.
