Marvin ‘Marty’ Bramlette
1931-2011
Marty passed away at his home in Bishop July 7, 2011 with his loving wife Jackie at his side.
He was born at Little Lake Calif. to parents Wales G. and MaBelle V. Bramlette. His father and grandfather built the old Little Lake Hotel and ran businesses there. He spent his days there until he was about 10 years old when his parents bought the old Bramlette Ranch in Benton, Calif. above the State Quarantine Station.

The elected officials of the Golden State have passed a budget that includes the discontinuance of a 1 percent sales tax increase.
As of July 1, the first day of the 2011-12 fiscal year, the statewide base use rate is 7.25 percent; in Inyo County, it is 7.75 percent, to accommodate additional, local taxes.
The State Board of Equalization explained in a press release, âIn areas where there are voter-approved district taxes, the total tax rate related to sales and purchases is the statewide base tax rate of 7.25 percent plus any applicable district tax.â
A tradition more than 50 years old returns to Bishop this week with hundreds of hard-working youth and their locally raised livestock in tow.
Future Farmers of America students and 4-H members from the Eastern Sierra and neighboring Nevada counties will converge on the Tri-County Fairgrounds for nearly a week of activities that showcase both the quality of their animals and the youthsâ skill and dedication in raising and caring for them.

Forest Service officials are investigating an incident in which someone used an excavator to carve a road into a non-motorized area of Forest Service land.
Local officials were made aware of the alleged road-building when a citizen notified the Inyo National Forest on Sunday, June 26 that an individual was using heavy equipment to widen a single-track trail in the Pine Creek Canyon area.
Fresh on the heels of Gordon Boettger’s recent, record-setting soaring adventures, more than 50 glider pilots converged on the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport in recent weeks to similarly take advantage of the Owens Valley’s world-class soaring conditions.
No new records have been set locally since Boettger and copilot Hugh Bennett rode a Sierra wave cloud for 2,200 kilometers – approximately 1,367 miles – in 13 hours back in April, claiming the Northern Hemisphere record for distance around three turn-points.

Morgan Deuschle of Bishop won three American Junior Paint Horse Association Youth World Championship titles in Houston, Texas.
Deuschle, riding One Hot Machine, competed in the 2011 Youth World Championship Paint Horse Show, June 24-July 2.
She took the title in Youth Walk-Trot Hunter Under Saddle (ages 5-9). Youth Walk-Trot Hunt Seat Equitation (ages 5-9) and the Youth Walk-Trot Western Horsemanship (ages 5-9).

Tehachapi continued its dominance of the Little League All-Star tournaments with back-to-back wins over the Bishop Juniors.
Bishopâs All-Stars lost by a slim 5-7 margin Friday afternoon.
Tehachapi took an early lead in Saturday morningâs game and never gave it up, taking the tournament with a 1-15 win. Bishopâs bats were active, but couldnât string them together for enough runs to challenge Tehachapi.
Bishopâs fielding looked sharp in the first inning. A rapid-fire throw from pitcher Grayson Hess to first baseman Brad Greene retired Tehachapiâs Zach Wagner.

For 10 years now, students at Bishop Elementary School have been given an opportunity to be immersed in a foreign language. This year marks the fifth class of fifth- graders to graduate from the program.
The immersion class is a âunique and exceptional program,â said Teresa Eckland, Bishop Union School District bilingual coordinator. âLearning a second language in childhood is the best time to develop fluency, accurate pronunciation, and a natural ease of expression. They become âlanguage experts.ââ
