Local leaders are contesting the Los Angeles Department of Water and Powerâs operations projections for the coming year.
The county has initiated legal action requesting that the LADWP reduce the amount of groundwater it plans to pump from the Owens Valley over the next 12 months.
In its annual Owens Valley Operations and Pumping Plan, the LADWP said it planned to pump 91,000 acre-feet of groundwater from the valley, the highest level of groundwater pumping by LADWP since 1989.

An alleged bomb threat that turned into a foot pursuit and then a dog attack on a deputy and the arrest of three local residents, kept local law enforcement busy for a couple hours in Bishop on Monday night.
Christina Perez, 28, Joel Soto, 19, and a 16-year-old male, all of Bishop, were arrested on charges ranging from resisting arrest to battery on a peace officer.
The juvenile was cited and released to his parents.
Perez was booked to Inyo County Jail on charges of allegedly resisting arrest with bail set at $5,000. She was also held on $200,000 in out-of-county warrants.
Mary Zolkiewicz
1921-2011
Born in Purley, England. Served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. Developed a lifelong interest in Polish culture and language. After the war, Mary was an English teacher to Polish military personnel who were exiled in England. She married one of her students, Leszek, who passed away in 2006. They were married 58 years. In 1948 Mary and Leszek moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Marvin ‘Marty’ Bramlette
1931-2011
Marty passed away at his home in Bishop July 7, 2011 with his loving wife Jackie at his side.
He was born at Little Lake Calif. to parents Wales G. and MaBelle V. Bramlette. His father and grandfather built the old Little Lake Hotel and ran businesses there. He spent his days there until he was about 10 years old when his parents bought the old Bramlette Ranch in Benton, Calif. above the State Quarantine Station.
