Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 11 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop, followed by a reception at the VFW at 2 p.m. for Thomas L. Cone.
Born June 4, 1930 in Lubbock, Texas to Thomas Fowler Cone and Maggie Bloys Cone, Thomas died Feb. 7, 2011. He was 80.
John Charles Bodine, Sr.
1944-2011
Burial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Pioneer Cemetery in Bishop for long-time Bishop resident John Charles Bodine, Sr. The Rev. Caddy Jackson will officiate. A memorial service will follow from 1-4 p.m. at the Highlands Mobile Home Park Senior Center in Bishop.
Born June 24, 1944 to John A. and Chris T. Bodine in Bell, John died Feb. 2, 2011 at Olive View Hospital in Sylmar. He was 66.

Members of the Big Pine American Legion are pooling their resources to honor and help local veterans.
Through its new Adopt-A-Vet program, the post has found a way to pay special tribute to community members deserving of recognition for their service to this country.
In 2011, the Big Pine Legion has selected Robert Cox and Robin Sparks, both of Big Pine, for adoption. To show the post’s appreciation, the Legion recently presented Cox with a Big Pine Warriors Jacket and Sparks with a $50 gift certificate for Kmart.

High school students throughout Inyo County will be competing for the first year in the national Poetry Out Loud competition. Winners will go on to the nation’s capitol to compete for a chance at more than $20,000 in cash and prizes.
Poetry Out Loud challenges thousands of students in the U.S. to interpret, memorize and recite famous poetry. The class competitions have already been completed or are about to commence at high schools in Bishop, Independence, Lone Pine and Big Pine.
